Just fyi, I just got done reading the kb entries and the file corruption fix is seperate. It's only included by virtue of being a "rollup," it's not at all related to the gaming issues. It seems to be some changes to the HDR framework causing this.

It's full of security holes now and becomes less and less compatible with current software as time goes by leading to really obscure problems. It's really best for you to upgrade it.

I have 2-3 issues with Windows patches in 2020 alone, now I just pause the updates every time it's due.
One of the update just straight up BSODing my laptop.

Windows is well known for stuffing the update process it's comman knowledge you have to back up before updating if you don't whatever nyou did.is gone

It can do that in the worst cases, but it’s not happened for years now, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Backups are always good, regardless of updates.

I just hope Linux can save the day someday, it's honestly improving a lot year over year... so maybe in 5 years we won't even need windows anymore, just have to be patient and see. Technically all the indie games I enjoy and many others work flawless on Linux right now, direct from steam linux launch no fancy stuff required (protondb etc is fancy for the common user like myself) so technically if I did want to play only those subset of games direct from Steam or GoG that natively support Linux I could move over to them right now... I believe Freesync is now supported on Linux as well and no longer requires fancy behind the scenes legwork...

hmm did I just convince myself to install Linux this weekend... LMAO

(all I do is game... and check email and like 4 websites) so maybe it is time?!?!?!?!

It does not change the fact that NO DEV's are optimizing or testing their software on Windows 7 anymore.

Windows 7 starting to feel like XP back when 7 was in support. Old and outdated. Good luck using newer high-end hardware on Windows 7.

Sure but no one should be using an operating system out of support unless they are offline maybe.

I have used Linux for years but Windows 10 is not going anywhere on my gaming rig. Would be pointless.

depends what you do though right? Steam usually comes preinstalled to my knowledge on Ubuntu or Mint? so I would simply sign in, and click install a game, and hit play. that's literally it? I am under the impressive the latest cpu/gpu drivers are built into linux kernel so i don't need to bother updating like I do on windows. its actually more plug and play if all you want to do is play a supported steam game, or am I wrong?

Tried to recreate my setup in a Linux VM, stopped trying when I saw that most of my workflow is messed up and some apps I need are unavailable on there, and when I saw that I'd have to do some major bypassing/resort to crappy alternatives to get it to work. Far from plug and play. My Windows installation is here to stay.

yeah but you are still completely ignoring what I just said. it's not for everyone, but in my specific use case, it's probably just fine.

And that's the root problem with Linux on the desktop - industry support is still lacking after more than 20 years. It's powerful and solidly well made, but what good is it without mainstream apps running on it like they do in Windows, or better? It's a real chicken and egg situation by the looks of it that Linux will never get over.
