Respectfully, the fact that there exists some "scalpers" doesn't prove there is a problem, nor how many were grabbed by scalpers vs. "legitimate" buyers. The theory about "bots" better have some serious evidence to be considered as facts.

The "immediate non-availability" is not a "fact" either. While I don't know the global distribution between wholesalers, a single scandinavian shop got hundreds of these, so there were likely many thousands globally. All the facts points to it not being a paper launch, just extreme demand.

Nooo don't you know that according to the AMD fanboys, nobody wants to buy an Ngreedia card, therefore the only explanation for there being no stock is that Ngreedia never released stock!

Or it could be, as Occam's razor would dictate, there are a lot of people who want these cards and not a lot to go around (which is not the same as a paper launch, I don't understand why I even have to explain this).

But fanboys and logic don't mesh too well at the best of times.

Almost everywhere you look, AMD fans and NVIDIA haters are dissing NVIDIA for "the botched release", "artificially limited availability", "releasing prematurely because they are afraid of consoles and RDNA 2.0" and "jacking up prices".

Meanwhile NewEgg, a major US etailer serving millions of customers, had their website crash (!) when people started chasing RTX 3080 cards:
Those wanting RTX 3080 GPUs, here's some info:
This morning we experienced more traffic than the morning of Black Friday
Limited inventory sold out in 5 mins

We'll release more as we get more
Bot protection was in place, orders were human Turn on Auto Notify & check back

I think its commendable that these GPU miners were willing to pay double to get their cards first from an inside source. I just want to upgrade my 1080ti, just get the cards to market so i can pick up a used 2080ti for $500 once the 3070's come out.

On eBay, an RTX 3080 card was allegedly sold for 70,000$

Some mad lad ran a bot with a few dozen accounts that bid on anything with 3080 in the title and it sent some auctions over $90,000. None of those are getting their money.

I can't wait for my Big Navi and Ryzen 4800x. Take care Intel and Nvidia, it was a fun ride.

The New York Stock exchange would struggle to keep up with you at this point.

Not paper launch but not a full launch either.. then there is an excuse for the 700$ price to become 1000$ just like how the 999$ of 2080ti went to 1500$ .
Nvidia doing dirty tricks? Your its the way we are being played.

You mean ALL fanboys? Or only the fanboy against Nvidia?
What about people who are not fan of any but just want to get best for their money? These are fanboys of who?

Sold out like fresh donuts.

Nvidia should have doubled the price and made their share holders very happy.

Either way meh, I need a new washing machine, my LG one exploded.

I wonder what the yields are like on those big chips with that crazy amount of transistors??

Anonymous partner yeah. That is so credible.

Gamers Nexus is a reputable YouTube channel and website with direct ties to SIs and OEMs and they have never been implicated in spreading lies. If anything Stephen Burke is always trying to get to the bottom of it and be as unbiased as possible. You, on the other hand, are free to believe in wild conspiracies and crap spread by no-nomers in the WCCFTech comments section and YouTubers like AdoredTV and Moore's Law Is Dead - both of which love to make up whatever facts to cause a ruckus and attract more views.

Recently the TPU forums have also started to be invaded by rampant AMD fans who lack logic and reasoning which is kinda sad to see.

I think if you sell out of something before a website can render the "buy button" for most people, it's definitely a paper launch. The effect and damage to credibility is entirely the same.

Wait same amount as last launch is that with the 2080 or a lower sku?
Covid-19 really messed with this.
If newegg crashed from only a graphics card sale it doesn't boed well for actually black Friday.I
Traffic will be even higher.

best for no one to buy a rtx 3000 and let it sit on shelves for 6-8 months for a price drop.
but that won't happen......

Definitely not related. Any similarity with fictitious events was purely coincidental

Shortly after launch would be ok. 1.2 seconds after launch is a whole new level of fare.

From what I understand the next shipment is October 2nd...

To a specific store?

Batches will be coming in continuously, some stores may get shipments multiple times a week. The batches from various AiBs are independent of each other.

It's sad to see how many desperately try to ruin Nvidia's reputation by spreading misinformation and outright lies.

There is no way Nvidia artificially limit the supply, claiming so is either crazy or completely clueless. Nvidia don't earn anything extra from inflated prices by retailers, and they have every intention to move as many cards as they can, especially if they face uncertain competition from AMD soon.

This launch is simply another case of higher demand than supplies. The demand seems to be even higher this time. There is no conspiracy, just tens of thousands of eager buyers.

This nonsense is already debunked, just look at AiBs like Asus, MSI, Zotac and Gigabyte offering cards at the same MSRP as Nvidia.
It's sad to see that this garbage gets this kind of attention. He is trolling you, and you and the author here fell for it.

I have been saying that the whole day. Nvidia already rose its prices a lot, so nvidia is already earning a lot of money here, so yeah blame retailers or people who want to resell the cards and by the way this was not a paper launch.

I think its commendable that these GPU miners were willing to pay double to get their cards first from an inside source. I just want to upgrade my 1080ti, just get the cards to market so i can pick up a used 2080ti for $500 once the 3070's come out.

Trust me gpu miners do not pay double of something, any savings is important if you are a gpu miner. This was not caused by gpu miners.

To be fair they should limit first release to bricks and mortar stores with a one unit per person limit for at least the first week.

With Coronavirus in the states at the level it's at, that really wouldn't fly here.

An editorial based on fud/rumors.

Also it's missing the editorial tag.

Call me a stickler, but you commited a cardinal sin Ravenholm, even if intended as comedy: You called a non-criminal act "criminal" in a non-marked editorial, hence presenting a non-criminal act as factually criminal. This is a big journalism no-no.

I mean I agree it's morally criminal, but that's for editorials, and this isn't marked.

Just sayin'. We all get better through critique.

Seems like some people got more than their fair share of cards.

Scalpers gonna scalp. Welcome to 2020.

This is not recent. It is however, annoying.

The whole *everything* was a good idea perverted into something ugly by greed #differenttopic.

Nah, some things are still good. Most of them don't involve money though, or can't.

Sure because retailers will give away info like "we had x units" openly. Everything is off the record.
