For once with nvidia I don´t see how this is a 'scandal'? Seems like a reasonable thing to do.

quoted from article "In any case, here's a quick recap if you haven't been following the scandal. " "Unfortunately, it also meant that the consumer, who purchased a graphics card with the non-A die, is essentially paying for an inferior product. "

So who has a TU104-400A-A1 die on their card?? if yes, you got lucky.
No such thing as luck, this was already in the news when the cards launched and you find A-dies on different products than you do non-A ones.

Scandal... my god. Another reason to avoid Toms.

Even Toms mentioning it in the article... yet somehow it still is a 'scandal'

A scandal is having this with no clear price or product line distinction.

the gist of it is, no one knew that non a's were inferior, so people payed the same price for a inferior card. Would you have payed the same for a non A had you know it was inferior?
Silicon lottery, you ALWAYS pay for something that you don´t know how it will perform. And the worse binned parts were used in lower tier, non OC versions. What is the problem?

EDIT: It would be a different story for me if the non A variants would not achieve the advertised boost speeds.

all cards got boost clocks, even the non-a ones got higher clocks that advertised turbo.
the most expensive versions got 400-a die and even higher clocks, but that's mainly due to cooling solutions able to keep them under 70c

I think th shows signs of alzheimer's.they were up nv's ass not so long ago.

Just don't OC that non A die, as Nvidia forbade it, "while the non-A variant is of lower quality and forbidden by Nvidia for overclocking. "
Only for the board partners, you can do with it whatever you want.

And exactly this makes the whole thing reasonable, if you sell a non-A die on your card you can´t use it in a top tier halo OC-version to avoid the scam that you seem to think there is.

If you was following the Turing launch this wouldn't be news to you.

The add in board makers were clear about this from launch. The basic blower and entry level cards had the low bin and the oc editions all had the high bins.

Not a scandal. Binning is always a thing. NVIDIA has apparently just reached the point where there's no profit in binning to that degree anymore...so they're stopping. Consumers are still getting what they pay for either way.

So was there a marked price difference then twixt normal and higher binned rtx2080/70's?
to make it plain and simple,it's the the aib maker that could screw you up.they got a and non-a dies from nv.if they put non-a dies on their top cards they messed up.

Only the normal 20/50 difference from an old style ref cooler to a nice tripple slot, 3 fan jobbie.

Not sure how this is deemed a scandal either. The A-die were simply better for overclocking, and were sold as such.

No big deal here... it's not like it was a make it or break it difference to begin with!

Yeah, I don't see how this is a scandal either. It is just nVidia pre-binning chips for AIBs. And if you were buying a pre-overclocked card, you were guaranteed the higher binned A chip. If you bought a stock clocked card, you are subject to the silicon lottery just like you always were before.

Well ,,I think the scadal is just miss representative.

The founders 2080ti got the best chips , AIB got non A unless they payed and charged more for the A chips.

Now they're all going to be A.

Who lost, probably no enthusiasts but some ordinary folk get duped again, not uncommon from Nvidia.

Definitely makes no difference, since the non-A die will likely make its way to either an ITX-friendly card, or something cheap with abysmal VRM anyways.
You'll be more bound by limitations of power and cooling rather than GPU itself. That's how I f$#ed up when I bought my EVGA 1060 (without looking at PCB pics first, cause there were none at the time of purchase).

Ended up with this garbage:
IMG_20190430_135617.jpg
Just in case I'm running it at 80% power limit. When my warranty runs out - I'm gonna beef it up with some more "fake" phases, more chokes and more caps (already have an eye on a potential ZF906 donor).

What brand is the card out of interest?
That's EVGA GTX1060 SC ACX2.0 (6GB). Running 3 phases on Vishay ZF906 PowerPairs. Hi-side FETs rated at 30A continuous current (80A pulsed @ 100us, but that's the topic for another day).
Realistically this is relatively "safe" for something like 90-100W load, but anything higher.... :banghead::banghead::banghead: And definitely not for overclocking.
I buried way too many videocards, where manufacturers were too confident that their BOM cuts won't affect failure rates.

Just in case I'm running it at 80% power limit. When my warranty runs out - I'm gonna beef it up with some more "fake" phases, more chokes and more caps (already have an eye on a potential ZF906 donor).
So just to be clear because you picked wrong and got a shit pcb card that's the real limiter on everyone else's Gpu.
And A chips only clock higher because they have the pcb to support better clocks.
Okay, Go Nvidia , this is the way consumer's are meant to be played.

I really hate when people play with my words or play stupid.
My point is that non-A chips are gonna end up on something like that ^^^
Both 400A and 400 can do reference spec, both perform identically at spec, so I see no point in bitching about lack of overclocking headroom.
Plus the actual news is that there will be no more binning and everyone gets the good stuff, so yeah, "Go Nvidia".

And no apologies to those who wanted the latest and greatest new chip before , only to get a sub performance chip on a purposefully limited circuit board.

Yeah go Nvidia, all Amd reference pcbs are good for 1.5 x the power requirements of the chip ,guess why I spend more in their direction.

This proved why I always felt EVGA was overrated.
