In addition to launching the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, NVIDIA could adjust prices of two of its key high-end SKUs to make them competitive with AMD's lineup. Prices of the GeForce GTX 780, which is currently priced at $649.99, and retails for as low as $620, could be slashed down to $499.99. The $399 GeForce GTX 770, which is losing ground to the Radeon R9 280X, which is $100 cheaper than it, could see its price slashed down to $329.99. The GeForce GTX 780 Ti could become NVIDIA's fastest single-GPU product, faster than even the GTX TITAN, and could occupy a $699.99 price-point. We're not sure if NVIDIA will continue to manufacture GTX TITAN. In addition, buyers of GTX 780 and GTX 770 will receive two things, a game bundle and a discount coupon for NVIDIA Shield. The bundle includes Batman: Arkham Origins, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The discount coupon for NVIDIA Shield will shave a cool $100 off its $299.99 price.

yippie another bloated useless card from nvidia that will be way over priced at launch. gt x 780, titan, 780ti?! one thing is for sure- titan would still be $1000 and the gtx would stay at $650 if wasn't for the amd r9 series.

Good move nvidia :toast:. Kudos to AMD for setting the enthusiast card price point back to 500ish. Though I won't be expecting those price drop in my country soon. Not at least half a year after

Prices at newegg went down by $100. so 780 is selling at $499-570 depending on vendor. Evga ACx 780 is $560. This move doesn't effect R290x at all, given that it is equal or faster than titan at the price of 780( after reduction). r290x still offers more bang for buck!

Try it. You'll LIKE it!

Seriously...I overpaid $150 it seems a mere 2 weeks ago. But I AM very pleased with it, it's a very very good card.

And to everybody accusing Nvidia of price gouging, the free market bears what people are willing to pay. And people were willing to pay for the fairly small stock of 780's, whose die is not exactly plentiful. Face it, if YOU had a product, youve got bills to pay, maybe a family to provide for, you're going to get as much as you can for it. You're sure not gonna lose money just so everyone can have your product. Businesses exist to make money. It may be frustrating to me to have to save for 8 months for something like a 780, but that doesn't make it price gouging.

I cant remember when was the last time I saw such a price war happen so unexpectedly and aggresively.

Huge fatality from AMD. Kudos to them for reestablishing the pricing range.

Call me crazy, but I still can't get the point from these prices, even after being "slashed".... I bought my first "high end" VGA around 1998 and it was a Monster Voodoo 2 8mb.... around $220.00....... and prices for "top end" vga stayed like that until not long ago.... they were around $250.... $300...... then these $1k monsters started to surface, and prices were never the same again..... and let's put on that mix hard drives and ram memory....
So I'm sorry, but I fail to recognize how $500 is a "must buy" or even a reasonable price. At that point a VGA like a GTX780 would be around $200 if this was a line up from 2009.....
But anyway, just keep buying it new for these prices, I'll love to have it for $150 used a little later and everybody gets happy... :toast:

Define, "not long ago"? Because, almost 8 years ago, in 2006, the 8800 GTX came out @ $550 MSRP IIRC. So, you are a few years off (and frankly should be used to this pricing considering how long we actually have been seeing them) of what you are trying to say.

So, in the landscape that has existed essentially since 2006, Seeing now that 2 different $500 cards can beat a $1k card, is why it is a 'must buy' and a 'reasonable price'.

I *think* the first single core GPU that was $1K was the Titan, which was released this year. Now, dual GPU cards are a different story all together. ;)

Even thought dates are not right, you still get the point, right ?
I guess on 2009 HD5870 was launched aorund $400 and HD5850 on $300... right ? And it was a matter of months (not even 5 is my guess), they were arouns $200-$280 mark.... we're talking about the high end cards of that time.
From techpowerup: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_8800_GTX_OC/
The thing is... prices like that were a joke a that time, now people think "it's fine".
This one is nice too: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/EAH5970/

Now you check the inflation between 1998 and 2009, then... 2009 to 2013..... you'll see something is wrong (even more because we're facing a global economy recession).
The thing is... if top end cards kept on the $200-$300 mark for 11 years... why they're up to $500-$1000 (ok scrap that $1k mark), in 4 years ?

About 2 cards (mid to high end), beating 1 single top end card for a lower price, this was always true as far as I can remember of.

I personally think some users on these forums are fake users, that have a single objective: To make prices look great! And many people buy this trap....
You can tell many have a few days, or very few posting saying these prices are the best thing on earth..... and this is a very common behave.

Exactly my point. I forgot about the 8800GTX Ultra that debuted at $830... thanks for supporting what I was saying (prices have been high longer than you described).

The problem, in my opinion came when there was just simply no competition from ATI at the time. Their 2900Xt sucked against its competition and ran hot. It wasn't really until the 4xxx series that ATI/AMD really pulled its head out of its ass and put up some decent cards in the market. In order to compete with the higher performing and higher priced offerings, they released with a much lower price to compete.

Regarding 2 cards beating a higher one... you misunderstood. I meant two different as in the 780 (any overclocked model), and the 290x can match/beat Titan. So now here we are WITH competition and we have price drops all over the place. What you are seeing is simply a product of the market and what was a lack of competition for the most part for the past several years for the most part. As was mentioned, perhaps in another thread, the best of the best of ANYTHING is disproportionately priced (hence Titan $1K).

I guess I am surprised that with all these signs pointing to it, that you are shocked we feel this is "OK".

LOL, fake users... stop it... seriously. You make me laugh. Next I will provide you with a picture of the earth (it is round), and some moon rocks (we did land there).

Exactly my point. I forgot about the 8800GTX Ultra that debuted at $830... thanks for supporting what I was saying (prices have been high longer than you described).
Yepz, that was the idea, I'm in no way trying to get into any discussion war here man. :)

Yepz, but what we have today are cards pretty much even, right ?

Regarding 2 cards beating a higher one... you misunderstood. I meant two different as in the 780 (any overclocked model), and the 290x can match/beat Titan. So now here we are WITH competition and we have price drops all over the place. What you are seeing is simply a product of the market and what was a lack of competition for the most part for the past several years for the most part. As was mentioned, perhaps in another thread, the best of the best of ANYTHING is disproportionately priced (hence Titan $1K).
Agreed and disagreed.
Competition has been very healthy since 8800 vs 3800-4800 series, I can't see lack of competition being the problem. Seems more like "price fixing", veiled of course.

I'm not being disrespectful with you sir., neither joking... this type of movement is always present, be it big or small, but yes, there are always SOME that will do just that...... viral marketing ? Makes part of it..... makes part of everybody life nowadays.... ;)
But really, I won't flame anything, I'm way over the age of having the patience of doing that. :)
