Second attempt declaring war on miner? We already know from their first try.

My thought exactly, this will boost their CMP card one way or the other.
What they really need to do is develop a mining card that leaves everything else in the dust (low power, low core, high memory bandwidth). And I’m not talking about the cmp garbage they’re selling. Sandbagging existing cards isn’t going to win this because as mentioned people will find away around the limitations. Plus it leaves a bad taste knowing your new card is in some way castrated (even if you’re not planning on using it for mining).

Every time starting 2013, always the same thing "A lot of big companies have jumped on" and since then we had 2 major 95% crashes, funny that after it crashes, nobody tells why these "big companies" are not buying anymore ehhe, truth is these are called huge bulltraps, they buy buy and buy then they sell sell and sell, then after few years they rinse and repeat, typical pyramid scheme.
You've been on the bitcoin websites spewing the exact same thing for months. Where is this magical 95% crash? The scam altcoins dont count. Can you point to Bitcoin ever crashing "95%"? You cant? I can only imagine why...it's never happened. It started really running up in 2017 and hasnt been sub $3500 since. At the current $63k price, 95% would be down to $3,150

Will there be a bear market, yes. Will there be more 2nd hand gpu's in the bear market? Yes. When will that happen? Nobody know's and you make it more and more clear by the day you sure dont know. Crypto isnt going anywhere. I suggest people stop blaming crypto for the shortage and start blaming the fact that the fabs are overloaded and everything needs a computer chip in it. Until the new fabs in the US are built and operational, this will continue (2 years). I know, it sucks and I hate it too. This is why you see Nvidia now saying gpus will be limited all of 2021. They will be most/all of 2022 too

Yep. I declared that literally years ago but they still don't get it.

What do you mean? You're against the free market? :)

When cards are constantly "falling off the back of trucks" by the pallet, I reckon something needs to be done.

I'm encouraging my parents and grandparents to get in on the Bitcoin fun!

We should take the Chinpokomon approach in that it won't be cool any more to want in on the monopoly-fun-money craze wasting load of electricity. Then the market will tank big time!

Except the last version wasn't cracked. Nvidia leaked the solution. So far, nvidia seems to have developed a great solution in hardware that some rogue driver developer undid. You're giving the hackers credit when they haven't done what you (and many others) said they would.

I always thought the previous version was a beta test for a bigger rollout. I expected it would come when they released their version of the SUPER cards or, possibly, in the next generation.

I have no objection to that either but too many small miners are buying multiple GPUs solely for mining and then there are the large mining farms that buy up hundreds and even thousands of GPUs for mining.

btw congrats on your first post since being a member for over 16 years. :)

yep and too many gamers if they are lucky enough to snag a gpu at a lower price are immediately flipping it on ebay for the ebay price and making a nice profit..

in truth the ebay price is the real price.. everything else is just pretend..

even gamers who were lucky enough to acquire a gpu a couple of months back are flipping them on ebay for the current ebay prices.. half the 3xxx series cards listed on ebay are listed as used..

the price for used is the same as the price for new..

these used gpus aint coming from miners they are coming from gamers who fancy making a bit of money..

trog

ps.. and for those that havnt a clue as to what is really going.. the price of bitcoin and etherium is being driven up by large institutions and the likes of tesla.. these people are emptying their piggy banks of cash and filling them with bitcoin.. you can now buy a tesla car with bitcoin.. tesla are stashing this bitcoin in essence its gone off the market..

the people now buying bitcoin are in it for the long term they are never going to sell it.. they are not kids in their parent basement any more they are big money organisations..

bitcoin aint gonna crash.. bitcoin is the future.. those that have it will get rich those that dont will get left behind..

It was also cracked independently from that leak.

If it works I hope they go back and re-release the 3070 and 3080 with the limiter.

Just hoping the new chip variant would nerf more algorithm beside ETH, that way miners are forced to buy the CMP.

I think the best we can hope for is that Nvidia makes it difficult enough to hack the driver that it gives enough time for some gamers to buy a card intended for playing video games to begin with.

You are against people making money.
I doubt these people are reporting and paying any taxes on the profits they made, let alone open a company and it paying taxes and dues like all the other stores must. So probably not just people but tax evaders as well.
Sure you can sell your old GPU in the second hand market, but if you buy and sell new stuff with the express reason to make money of such trades you are basically a store - unregistered, and not paying taxes, while your clients are not protected with the consumer protection laws since you are officialy not a store.

Those very gamer and part-time miner, blinded by money, would often go out and source additional GPUs so that they can make more money, contributing to the scarcity of GPU LOL.

Then sell them at MSRP and they wouldn't have to.

It's the whole nonsense story of one person being able to buy more than one GPU without pre-arranging this at the manufacturer. If they made it so, that only 1 card per customer could be gotten via; ID, Address, Cell No. Phone Number, user account, etc. this could have made sure that these cards stay at or near their MSRP.

No one would then have to "recoup" their ridiculous GPU price to begin with.

But hey, I have an idea, let's just let all the people with a ton of money run bots the whole time, buying up all the stock from a said company and sell it @ 3x times the price, maybe 5x, because hey, they can, muhahahahahahahaha. How fair? Right?

This is close to Extortion: The practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.

Granted, no one is threatening people, but they are forcing people to buy at these ridiculous prices.

No one is forcing anyone to buy?!.

So don't or do but be real.

Oh and this is a comedy troll fest setup by Nvidia themselves, total balls all round.

As for the crypto hater's ,not a fan but read up, POS proof of stake turning up in ETH might end this mining boom , little else has a chance in the near future, and it's not clear when this will happen yet, bitcoin is only tangentially important / relevant to mining, it's price supports the cost of Eth other than that it's irrelevant to GPU mining.

So don't or do but be real.

I said it's close to extortion, not that it is. Of course, you still have the option of not buying one, no one is holding a direct gun to your head after all but then, what of people that use them to generate an income and their old hardware is faulty or broken? Be it a streamer, miner, video editor etc. The line get's really blurred, at least to me.

The problem stems from a few people buying up all inventory.

From what I hear from miners they aren't using video cards to mine Bitcoin. They are using them mostly to mine Ethereum. I did some reading on the future of Ethereum and some analysts are saying it may go as high as $7,000 by 2025. Right now it's $2,400. So the GPU shortages could possibly get even worse and the prices on sites like Ebay could get even higher.

TSMC is building a mega-fab in the USA but it probably won't go online until 2024 and I'm not sure if it will have capacity for GPU manufacturing.

I'm not going to stop gaming even if I am forced to pay $3,000 for a 4080 when they come out. I will try to go on the waiting list first on sites that allow that but I have already seen one member here saying that he's been on a waiting list for 6 months and hasn't gotten one.
