I am surprised there isn't a thread about this! Holy balls this looks amazing! Brings back 20 year old memories...

So far I've run to K'vatch on a 7950x & rtx 3090

it looks a lot more lively and more pleasant running around the world. it's running smoothly.
What is very unpleasant is that everyone looks like they had a stroke and have swollen faces.
the whole thing looks like 'the weeknd - save your tears'
Putting some effort in reanimating the main characters for the main quest would have made things far less ?awkward?

Dunmer are mer dark skinned mer with red eyes, they should look like regular mer not tall grey goblins.
Goblins have always been genderless given the "type" BS why do goblin shamans now have to be witches?

Immersion breaking

No wolves don't bark when they attack i can't remember if this happened in the original but given the amount of irritation It's causing me it can't have been as It would have driven me from the game back then.
The harvesting animation looks like the ingredients are being teleported or warped in to your inventory, just no.

I'm not a fan of the new leveling mechanic

I don't know if I"m going to play much more, the world looks better but for me a fan of the real game.
It's as if they used a dark soul gem to suck out its soul.

I think it best if i go and save martin though.

After going trough the Oblivion gate I'm getting car sick and my eyes are hurting.
this only happened after i was playing for hours on the original.

Way too expensive for a remake. :(

Oblivion is the game that got me into RPGs. An all-time classic for me with a special place in my heart. I'll definitely buy it as soon as it goes on discount.

The question is... will it still be better than whatever the next Elder Scrolls game is?

After a few hours:
Graphics is good, btw im not the fan of the unreal engine because of the bad scaling on weaker gpu-s (and forced RT) but i have a 7900XT now and that can handle it very well.
Faces...well this is oblivion...known for the best face generator ever! (joke)
Leveling is simpler, but i think it is better that the original
Gameplay feels different from the ES games.
Animations are fine but harvesting is strange.
Skills are fine but missing a few things.
So i think it is a good base and with mods i think it will be better!
I would love to see this engine and the details in Skyrim or all of Tamriel with a map the size of Daggerfall.

That's impossible to know, but Oblivion is hands down the best Elder Scrolls game so far, imo.

---

Anyway, I don't know why some people complain about the performance. My brother gets stable 60 FPS with occasional hitches at 1080p on a Ryzen 5 5500 with a 2060. 40-50 FPS with hardware lumen on low.

id buy it if they did VR, ive got picky with flat games of late must be a age thing i like to get out in me games if you know what i mean but i did enjoy the OG.

iv'e enjoyed all the elder scrolls outside the MMO (old enough to have played them) but oblivion is probably my top one. I do wish they maybe would have added some quests. I'll get the remaster eventually but I know at some point during the game I'm going to be "I've done this dozens of times already".

Arena was awkward, Daggerfall was way too big, Morrowind was too complex, Oblivion was just right (except for the horrible levelling system), Skyrim was nice but empty, and the MMO is just another MMO.

This is how I see it.

Edit: I don't mind doing the same thing again and again if it's a good thing to do. Better than doing something new but ultimately boring and crap.

At (20 years) long last!

I never could get into the elder scrolls, the story and lore was just too all over the place for me, and animal creatures that look and act and move like humans has always just felt weird to me for some reason, no idea why

I'm not able to play longer than a minute without a crash to desktop on a stable, fully patched system.
Guess I'll have to wait a while for the bug patches to be released.

It’s actually a sidegrade at best. On the one hand, it’s somewhat better for complete newcomers and new perks for skills are appreciated. On another - it’s worse for power (you cannot get +5 level ups on 3 stats) and it actually interacts with the scaling system in an even dumber way than before since now ALL skills count towards leveling and you can’t just dump non-combat utilities into Miscellaneous to avoid the “the world outscales you” problem.
I have no idea how they still managed to fuck this up considering that mods like OOO solved the issue almost 20 years ago.

Off topic: My dream...skyrim with ue engine and with much better size.

I was going to make a thread the day it came out, but I decided to just go play lol

It's way too buggy and runs terrible though

They pulled DLSS and FSR in an update today. Really shows how unoptimized this game is without it.

All the original Gamebryo bugs now wrapped in UE5's visual bugs and issues. A match made in Hell Oblivion.

People are recreating all of the classic Oblivion memes. It's gold!

I just want high refresh, if they could give me skyrim at 240 fps 240hz 1440p, firing arrows at dragons would be insane fun

Checking it out.. didnt realize it was 'free' on MS Game Pass.
EDIT: Free is the wrong word.. "included with game pass" is more fitting.

Meh there are tons of graphic mods for the original so I'll pass

$85 where I am on steam, have to be pretty desperate to invest in this version imo.

You won’t see any modern game outside of e-sports titles running at 240 frames per second anytime soon, I am afraid. I have yet to see a UE5 title run that fast even on a 5090, not without dumping the settings or using upscaling. I would like modern devs to focus on smooth performance over pretty graphics too, but the market apparently wants otherwise.
You can technically run Skyrim at whatever framerate you want via SSE Screen Tweaks, but yeah, the physics just break above 60.
