OC Stability: Replacing Furmark with Unigine

Everyone,

By now you have heard of Furmark - its legendary value in the OC world to check stability.

However, if you follow the end of this thread, you will see that Furmark does NOT confirm DirectX stability of your OC. Furmark just exercizes the OpenGL features of your card.

I propose a new DirectX benchmark for OC stability testing (DX9, 10 & 11).

I have been using this for a while (ok, just 3 hours) and it is KICKING MY OC ASS!

I used to think I was stable at my current settings - but with Arizona heat coming on, I am crashing like a blind man flying an Airbus!

Give it a try - see if your card can run this for an hour straight!

Post your successes - and failures!

Thanks Arctucas - I should have dug deeper here before posting - BUT - and this is a big BUT - I am not interested in the Unigine Benchmark results - thats not the purpose here.

I am talking about OC stability ONLY! Can your gear go the distance - 1 hour - without crashing!

OK, I think I understand all the crashes - How can I be Crysis 2 stable, for hours, and still crash running Unigine??? Unigine has to be buggy as hell!
Nevermind this thread - Unigine is just not ready yet!

I have no idea.

I gave it a go, ran Sanctuary for a little over an hour with nary a hiccup.

DX9, Shaders High, 4XAF, AA off, 1920x1200 FS.

I did a small OC on my 560TI and ran heaven bench for 1 hr, came home and it was still running fine.

Tropics is the most damaging on my system. Those huge expanses of moving ocean....

Try Tropics for an hour. All the other Unigine benches seem to be far less severe.

Also, make sure you have HDR and Ambient Occlusion and atleast 4X AA turned on. (basically all options turned on)

It does not have DX11. DX 10 for me would not be as intense. most of these new cards are more tessellation/DX10

Copy that - try running GPU-Z sensor tab off to the side and see which bench maxes your temps and GPU load. In my old DX9 world, Tropics takes the cake.

Ok, I found my problem - I was running too old drivers (Cat 8.4). Now with 8.741 version, everything is stable. This Unigine does appear to be a much better stability test so far!

Furmark is the old name. MSI Kombustor (previously Furmark) supports DX9, 10, 11, and OpenGL 2.0 and 3.0. It comes with MSI Afterburner iirc, which is the application to use if you're overclocking your video card.
*: Take this with a grain of salt, I'm pretty sure furmark is the old application.

That would be a negatory - see for yourself - this name is still in use, and is current.

Likewise, it only stresses the OpenGL 2.0 portion of your GPU. I will look for Kombustor - it may be much better!

I'm sorry, I looked into it a little more. Apparently Kombustor is based off of Furmark. I personally like it for stress testing. If anything gets your video card to hit its max temperature, it is Kombustor. Best of luck, hope you like it.
