OCing my Ram

I've not even started yet and I'm making a thread for it! I know I'll be here soon enough. I'm on a Ryzen 5 3600, Corsair LPX micron 32GB.

My base timings are 3800mt 18 - 22 - 22 - 22 - 42. So 18 20 20 20 40 doesn't work...

3200c16 I believe is what you have so it's likely only good for 36-3800 if you're lucky
Best is to just tune it to it's best performance and lowest latency
aida64 extreme has a 30 days trial
I looked on ebay cheapest I saw was 10.us for it guess most sold out of the really cheap 2-3.us licenses.

Couple examples of easy settings to alter on intel are just these two settings
First just lower this until you can't post and raise it about 24
DRAM REF Cycle Time 4 [350]

This one is maxed out atm but what ever it shows as default you can simply double the number in bios for a good bump.
DRAM Refresh Interval [65535]

That’s way too high, most Ryzens max out at 3800, 4000 stable would be extremely lucky. My new one only does 3600.

Yeah, want to just work on timings at 3800 or just wait for my 5600X3D where timings don't matter

Kinda true. Though this applies to Zen2 (3000 series) which the ops has. You will max out at 3800~ and that will require manually settings voltages as well for the SoC and IOD. I would just go for DDR4-3600 with the lowest timings and call it a day. I'll take CAS16 over 18 any day. especially if it requires a whole lot less work.

Timings actually help Ryzen more after a certain point of bandwidth (3200-3600ish). One of the best Rams you can buy for Ryzen is 3200 CL14.

Understand this, go to your ram makers site, look up the next bandwidth level from yours, set the ram to that bandwidth, timings and volts. I set mine from 2133 to 2400 Trident levels and it worked, then i started to tighten timings, Cas will for sure not go below 10 on mine.

Any time it would freeze on a timing level after testing I would just loosen it 1 tick.

Its DDR 3 but still applies today.

One of the best Rams you can buy for Ryzen is 3200 CL14.

Especially if they can do 4000 C14..

Are you doing any pre OS testing? like with MT86 for example?

I've only the one usb stick I can find and that's got my windows recovery on it.

Now - I will say this isn't for everyday use, 3800 is in fact a realistic limit for most any daily use and that's fine, I'll also make the point your board and BIOS determines alot of it as well.
The other AM4 board I have (X470 Tachi Ultimate) with the same sticks and chip can barely crack 3600 period but the board used for that entry (X570 MEG ACE) makes it all seem like different hardware in comparison.

BTW I didn't have the sticks cold when I did that, just a fan on them to get it done.

G. Skill Trident 2x 8GB / CL16-16-16-36 sticks, ran at stock timings for this.

However Corsair RAM and Rysen as said before can be asking for trouble, this is why I suggest G. Skill RAM and you can see the results I've had with it so far.

No, for RAM speed (And only RAM speed) I do not rate ASRock period.
Don't get me wrong, they are good boards but they just fall short in RAM speed vs the rest.
I'm aware aside from what I have personally, others with the same RAM speed ceiling with ASRock boards.
