The mobo can't bump the voltage to your video card. You have to mod the BIOS of the video card itself. Mobo has nothing to do with it.

Hey fellas I think there is a problem with 3dmark06. If I set my card to max resoultion 1440x900 8/aa and anisotropic filtering16 in 3dmark06 after a lengthy loop I will get a dx9 driver error. This also happened with my 9800gtx when I forced the card at higher setting. Can someone else try those setting and see if you get this driver error. My card works fine at all other setting it just has trouble with the driver at filtering 16 not 15,14,13,12 etc.

anyone think or know for sure that it's possible to crossfire a 3870x2 with a 4870 or a 4850? i got a 3870x2 and a 3870 in crossfire right now. i don't like the results i'm seeing in this crossfire. i'm selling my 3870 and will save the money to get the 4870 or 4850 and hope to crossfire it with the 3870x2.

Before I burn new BIOS to both of my core, I want to save a copy of the current bios.
But ATIWinflash doesn't work on my system (vista x64) - it just freezes and I'm unable to close the process.

What can I do?

Edit: I've ran it as "XP SP2", but I get the following error: "Critical file missing. Please, download and run video BIOS flash files again."... Help? :(

Wow Can I see a GPUz verfication? Were you able to bench at that speed? I'd LIke to try and hit that.

sure if you want, but my whole rig is down until a few parts come in, as soon as the stuff comes in and I get it back together, I post up a screenie and gpu-z verification, and yes was able to bench 3dmark 06 with it.

Wait, really? Not trying to be rude, but can you show a link to someone doing it? or proof of some sort? I have a 2900XT sitting here collecting dust. It would be awesome to get a 3870X2 to go with it.

Kirby123, are you sure you can crossfire a 3870x2 with a 2900xt. the only article i read that a site was able to crossfire a 3870 with a 2900xt was here

http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/3870-XXX/mixed.php

it would be awesome if i can crossfire a 3870x2 with a 4850 or 4870. here's my dilemma, i have some cash in paypal that i'd like to save toward another ati card. if it's possible to crossfire a 3870x2 with a 4870 i'm going to hold on to the cash for when the card comes out. if it's not possible then i will definitely get another 3870x2 and crossfire it. i can't seem to sell my 3870x2 on anandtech's forum. i guess everyone is anxiously waiting for the 4800 series. check out the site and see if you can crossfire your 3870x2 with a 2900xt.

Back when CF first appeared, i remember reading something about being able to CF different cards (3650 and 3870, for example): the catch would be that the better card would perform on the same speed as the worse one. Also, dunno in which order to put the cards in the motherboard: it was mentioned, i think, but i don't recall :(

I could be remembering this wrong: not sure.

EDIT

One thing, though: even @ a lower speed, the better card would outperform the worse one, or am i understanding this wrong?

alright, i've decided to wait for the 4870 to come out and drop in price. i think it'll be possible to crossfire the 3870x2 with the 4870. if it's not possible then just sell the 3870x2 cheap later on and get another 4870 to crossfire. another alternative is fore go the 4870 altogether and get another 3870x2 and have better performance than a single 4870. i'll be patient and wait and see.

The guy clocking the GX2 sucked. lol.

But seriously, what cooling were they using? I assume these were LN2 runs, or something like that. How does that in any way equate to gaming performance? Even in my sometimes delusional world, I understand that benchmarks mean nothing when it comes to real world gaming. Yes, the 3870X2's bench very well. They hold the 3DMark06 record, but then again, the GX2 holds the Vantage record. Anything goes in the extreme benchmark world. In real life gaming situations, using normal cooling method (like air, water, TEC) the GX2 wins, hands down. The gap gets even wider when you enable AA on both cards.

This is coming from a guy that's an ATI fan at heart. The last card I purchased was the 2900XT, and that was by choice. I could've bought an 8800GTX at the time, but didn't. It's not that I don't like ATI, it's just that they flat out lose this round.

what? do you look at websites for your information? cuz they said the HIS HD 3870 X2 lost to the oc of the 8800 Ultra superclock and i beat the shi outta the 8800 ultra superclock. i remember alll the ati were on stock fans... for the price i rather have ati it runs every game max graphics and everything on very high with no lag... so ill stick with ati. oh ya, have you seen the new 4 series? it beat the gtx280 or something w.e the new invidia is.

I don't need to look at websites for info. The members of this forum have all the info I need. The GX2 is faster than the 3870X2, especially when you turn on Anti Aliasing. It really is that simple. I don't understand why you are trying to argue the point, it's already been proven over and over again.
