OCUK Price Gouging is WORSE than what you get from the scalpers.

I just had to post this, OCUK has had thousands upon thousands from me in new builds for myself and my clients.

This just sickens me...

I cant believe i supported this company for so long. Their price gouging is disgusting... IMHO
I heard their explanation for this. They were going to keep the prices high to put off the scalpers. Well ive never heard such rubbish. This is price gouging plain and simple. They could offer pre orders at rrp. And guaruntee all forum members and previous customers, especially the system builders that made them so successful 1 card at least. Instead we have this.

What am I missing because those scalper prices were 'buy it now' apart from one on Ebay. Even so they are still nearly double the RRP.

What say ye????

With so many people on lockdown and having excess cash via grants and payouts as well as computer gaming / building being more popular now that it's ever been, people are paying these insane prices which is the biggest issue.

If the demand wasn't there chip shortage or not, brands retailers and manufacturers wouldn't be able to play this silly game.

Here in Thailand every retail store is charging western scalper prices and selling out then the scalpers are charging double that. When I was looking for a gpu for my recent build I searched the market high and low and ended up paying around £320 for a powercolor Rx 570 4gb as that was literally the cheapest card on the market here and that was from a top retailer who pride themselves on being one of the most reputable. I still get regular adverts for rtx 3090's priced at anywhere between £6000 and £8000 from scalper stores on online marketplaces, who actually sell their products it's all insane.

They're a business, don't like it don't use them. I've used them in the past but use Scan pretty much 100% these days.

As Covid related supply disruption rumbles on there could be an argument for trying to time hardware purchases for the summer months. That is why I did this year.

I just cant understand why they would miss an opportunity to get the whole of the tech community on side. Surly guaranteeing loyalty from thousands of potential customers is more important than making a fast buck and alienating many instead.

I understand it's a buisness and im possibly being unfair to OCUK by singling them out. As of course this is not just a problem with that company price gouging.

Only PCworld/currys of all places are selling at actual retail prices. Unfortunately they do go out of stock very quickly.

We could try to organise something through the forum to basically place our own bulk orders, a group buy of sorts.

Maybe if someone proposed a shop on the forum to Wizard he might be up for it.

I think we need to do something as we are being had right now.imo

We have to get our heads together. :toast:

@ThaiTaffy - If you let me know which gpu's your looking for I will pick one up at close to retail if I can and ship it np. Those prices are just insane.

If someone had told me 10yrs ago that people would buy a £369 product for £600+, especially the tech community! I'd of called them mad! shortage or no.

What bothers me is the seemingly unlimited supply some scalpers seem to have. We have an extra middleman 'all of a sudden'. I get whats going on in the world. But this isnt happening with phone's

and many other expensive electrical items which rely on silicon chips. imo

I have a 3070 waiting for me back in the UK :) just with how to gpu market is ATM, pretty much everyone knowing how bad it is and they way shipping companies work there's a 99% chance it would get lost if I sent it here so taking that risk is not worth it. But tyvm for the offer.

Shipping costs are another reason I haven't purchased anything from many retail outlets apart from China. Import duties are very high along with the insane cost of mail.

Alphacool/xspc seem to not have any decent distributors here and they are the only two companies which offer the radiators I would need for my current build, a £50 rad would cost an additional £150 in tax plus another £50 shipping so by that logic to ship a £800 gpu here it would cost an additional £2500 on top of the £800 card which might be a factor of why prices are just so insanely high here.

649 GBP are about 3800 RON. The cheapest RTX 3060 Ti i can find ATM is 4100 RON about 710 GBP.

To put things in to perspective.
Your average salary is about 2500 GBP based on what i find on a quick search. Our average income is about 605 GBP(3500 RON). So, in UK a RTX 3060 Ti is about 25% of an average income.
While we have to buy them at about 110% of what an average worker makes in a month. And yes, Romania is part of the EU, just like the UK was.

Shit i would love to buy a brand new RTX 3060 Ti with ~ 25% of my monthly income :)

Ok we'll check this bit of maths out then a 3090 in Thailand can sell for 350,000 baht (about £7,500) minimum daily wage is 350baht (£7.50) so a 3090 is 3 years wages give or take.

the amount of people who believe that MSRP is a real price is too damn high...

as much as hate mining, scalpers and "evil retailers"
the MSRP and the actual price in the store (for normal profit margins) is insanely different.

beside shipping, component shortages and price increases from parts manufacturers and even TSMC/Samsung.
the distributor alone slaps a couple hundred bucks on top of every card because they can.

a 3060ti should have a "real" MSRP of around 549€

I haven't bought from them in years. Everything I wanted I often found cheaper at Scan, EBuyer, etc. It's really specifically the GPU market that's completely screwed up beyond all recognition at the moment. That they're selling a 1050Ti for £60 more than what I snagged a new GTX 1660 for (pre bubble), LOL. I feel most sorry for those who are trying to buy a replacement for a GPU hardware failure + they have an iGPU-less CPU and it's literally "pay up or have absolutely no usable PC whatsoever".

They have always done it sadly, someone on their own forum recommended a ssd that they sell to PS5 owners and within hours they bumped the price just from that post.

Sometimes it can work the other way though, I made a request on their for them to discount my current motherboard, and Gibbo discounted it for me. They will discount things for forum members from time to time.

Its worth noting other UK retailers do it as well and OCUK have been multiple times the cheapest place to get new AIB gpu's in the UK providing you are a forum member with lots of posts.

Luckily for Nvidia, the UK has been getting massive amounts of stock from Nvidia for FE cards. all sold at MSRP.
