I've had Rift CV1 for a good while and that sucks af that they want to tie it with using Facebook.

You gotta hand it to the amount of crazy conspiracy tin foil people thinking FB is out there to get them, and them specifically. On the other hand if they REALLY don't want to tracked they should stop commenting on this very forum, pull plugs on all internet connected advice and go live off grid using cash only. What conspiracy are you talking about here? It's all in the open. FB openly admits that it's bread & butter (business model) is datamining and selling targeted adverts and anonymized users behavior data to 3rd party clients. The more data they can collect from it's users more precisely targeted adverts can they offer to it's clients aka charge more $$$ for it. That's why German regulators don't allow Oculus products to be sold in Germany. You think you're buying FB's product, but you're the product instead.

And one more thing, you can maintain high level of anonymity on the web if you use payed 3rd party encrypted VPN services like Swiss ProtonVPN and google/apple allow you to do so, but not FB. You get banned for using them. This tells you all about what FB agenda really is, data mining. Zuck is simply saying: I'm not allowing you to use FB IF you don't wanna be data mined and he applied the same logic to it's VR enterprise.

That's new to me, at least Germany does seem to put privacy first as a priority.

But you don't have to use FB to use the Quest 2. It's just the login system for Quest 2. You have to go into settings and turn on let Facebook friends with Quest2's see you or you can open it up for everyone but by default it's set to only you. Which even if you do set it to FB friends it's really limited and it's not as polished as it could be for a social feature. I can 100% say you would love a Quest 2 over your CV1. It's just so much better and below the ballpark figure.

I'm getting even more interested in Oculus Rift S.

I enjoy mine as well and use it for PC VR more than the Quest2 or well up to the v28 update anyway. I believe I'll start using my Quest 2 more now with Air-Link and 120hz.

I think with ASW you would hit it and not notice it. ASW made wireless so much better. Also, you can set it to 90hz. The bump in resolution and 10hz more over the Rift S's 80hz is a nice bump. Now, is it enough to upgrade probably not if you don't care about having a standalone hmd. I really enjoy being able to jump in to bigscreen, Youtube VR with nothing but my Quest 2 that you can take anywhere.

The Rift S is only 80hz, but yeah you are right about FO4VR, Skyrim VR, and NMS. Do you use any mods for the first 2? Mod's really help those games out. I need to try them with the new v28 update.

What people fail to see is that the FB login integration is no different than PSN, XBL, Steam, Epic, etc... They think that by using an FB login for the Quest 2 that you load straight into FB.. You know and I know that it's nothing like that at all. We are pretty much on the Ground floor with Quest 2. It's great hardware but your phone tracks you by far better than the Quest 2.

I always find it amusing that every time the required accounts from other companies, cell phone tracking, etc. are brought up in postings like this one that everyone conveniently skirts around the topic and never address it. They have no issue with it when it is a product that they want or like, such as Steam tracking their usage, location, or whatever, but when it's a product/company that they despise, now all of a sudden it's a huge problem that must be burnt to the ground. I got around the $400 enterprise tax described in the article by simply making a blank FB account specifically for using Oculus, just as I have with Steam, Epic etc. (in fact, those other accounts have far more info/friends available than the FB one). I have logged in to it a total of 2 times ever, one of those only to verify that I'm a real person. Zuck is free to data mine that blank account until he's blue in the face and plaster it with ads that I'll never see...have fun. I hope he enjoys watching my crappy driving in AC.

So, please don't hate on me for hating FB. I never said I didnt like VR (I don't use it but I don't bash it). But i reserve the right to bash FB and it's empire.

yes both are running quite a few, ive 900ish hrs in fallout4vr and about 700hr in skyrimvr but me fav at the mo is no mans sky vr im about 300hrs in but only got it in october last. i have a rift as well thats the 90hz im talking about but the S looks better. you should load a few mods it makes the games never ending and build as much as you want.

Join me, and togethe.... j/k lol It's ok not to like FB. I never said I liked them. I'm just pointing out that at the moment you can buy a great piece of hardware that doesn't have all the things people are worried about with FB. The front cameras are black and white and while you can make out where you are but it would be hard to get a lot of detail. John Carmack pointed out he wanted to use better cameras but they need to keep it at 299. He said he doesn't know how it tracks anything but it does positional tracking well.

Do not buy hardware (or kitchen items or any appliance) that requires a social media account login, or periodic payments to use the hardware you've purchased. Same reason that you don't buy inkjet printers that only work with branded cartridges.

The Quest 2 business version must be purchased from Oculus Business and also requires a yearly subscription of 180 USD after the first year for added business services and support.

Extortion? Can you play a Playstation 4,5 or Xbox One, x without a PSN, XBL account (Honest question I don't own either.)? You have to have an account to have a smartphone. It's the same thing. When you log in to your Quest 2 with your account it's not like logging into FB. It's just the Oculus home. You do plan to buy games for your Quest 2, right? Then you have to put your information in to do so.

FB isn't just out to get an individual, it's out to get everyone.
Harvesting data is their life blood and how they earn an income, advertisements are part of that too, and often linked to the data.

What big tech company isn't doing this a long with FB? If you own a smart phone you are carrying around a microphone, camera, and gps with access to a network to send this information. I think we are way past caring now. I mean if you don't have a smart phone then everyone around you does and you are being tracked. That's not a tin foil hat that is a fact. People are buying cameras to put everywhere for "safety". It's all around you and if you don't believe that then you keep beating your FB drum.

I think one of the main differences is that Facebook is easy to avoid. Unless you're a business or something, actually using it to reach people easily, it's not really something you need. I think people need cell phones more than they need Facebook. I'm not too happy about carrying Google around in my pocket, but I do try to do what I can to limit how much data they can mine off me. I don't have Alexa in my house, either.

I think most of the vitriol here comes from Facebook forcing you to use an account with them to use the Oculus. First of all, why do I need to log into an account to use it in the first place? I don't log in to my other devices. There is no prompt on my keyboard, mouse, speakers, printer, monitor, etc... to log in to some shitty account I didn't want in the first place, let alone not letting me use the thing if I don't log in.
