I've uploaded a post asking for a cooler suggestion
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=83983
And I decided I was going to buy Xigmatek s1283.
I was looking through reviews (for example http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=156&Itemid=1)
and stuff online and heard of OCZ Vendetta 2.
It is a bit more expensive than Xigmatek but on Canada Computers,
It is $46 with $15 MIR and I can personally go and get it because it is close!
(No shipping fee)

I'm also getting Arctic Silver 5 and Retention Bracket for Vendetta 775 with it.

Should I go for Vendetta or Xigmatek??
I thought it'd be better to get Vendetta because it's cheaper and possibly better:)

I agree, get the Vandetta, it's cheaper. See if you can find some AC MX-2 instead of the Arctic Silver compound.

They're pretty much the same performance, and both push pins. I've got a great experience w/ the S1283, but never tried the OCZ Vendetta 2. But u should get watever is cheaper.

According to online stock checking system thing,
the AC MX-2 is available? Is it better ? :) cus I've mostly heard of OCZ Freeze
and Arctic Silver 5.

Yeah I heard the push pin is really bad so I'm getting Retention Bracket with it too.
Which will support it nicely and stuff;)

MX-2 available where you can find it. They carry it on Neweggs US site. Yes it's better than AS5 as I generally get better temperatures and it's not conductive to electricity.

AC MX-2 is better than Arctic silver 5 because it's non-conductive so you don't have to re apply it every 2-3months or so. And MX-2 is better than AS5 by 2-5C.

Oh I see the price is about the same so I'll definitely get that!
And how often should I apply MX-2 then if not 2~3 months? :)

Just once. Ok, now wait for the other posts that tell you the same thing. I feel like I have a "yes" man following me around sometimes. Such is the life in a forum.

Wow once, that's fantastic!
I'm also trying to vmod my 8600gts and I was told to
use a thermal compound in it too.. so that's nice!
Except I don't think I can vmod it... nibitor and nvflash doesn't seem
to do anything =(

Don't waste your time buying from anywhere else in canada other than www.DirectCanada.com.

I own the Xigmatek...both are good coolers and do about as well as each other..get whatever one is cheaper. :)

This is a real newbie question but
where do you apply thermal paste ? lol
Never done it before I think it was on the heatsink of the cooler
right??
For both VGA and CPU, I think I've seen it on a website
but can't be sure

A 1/4 the size of a pea size on the center of the cpu. That might be too little, when u see very high temps, try 1/2 pea size.

Whaaaaaaaaat?? There's a caegg, http://www.newegg.ca/

"Caegg" blows for cooling, they don't even carry thermal paste. There shipping takes a week or more to get here, and it is 15 bucks or so for anything(Unless its free shipping). Just buy from any good known Canadian store, they have 1-2 Day shipping for 5-10 Bucks and better prices most of the time:eek:

Trust me, Newegg.ca sucks compared to the US version...with DirectCanada you often get free shipping (always with orders over $300; iirc) and you wont pay Provincial tax unless you live in BC.

Forget newegg and go check out DirectCanada, I assure you that it will save you money and leave you happy.

ps. shipping is super fast too!

Yeah thanks for the great website
the prices seem better than anywhere!
But for now I'll stick with Canada Computers
cus they have it in stock unlike directcanada
and I live around it =) Thanks!

How come one of you said I should put thermal paste on CPU
but on that review someone else put it puts it on the heat sink
I'm confused!
