GUYS!! IT'S WORKING!! :rockout::rockout::rockout:

But, there is a catch.

I believe, after testing with both the display port and HDMI cables my monitor came with, that the XT's Display Port ports are bad. Tried the cable in both, no signal. Hooked up the HDMI cable, got a picture upon start up. I say the DP ports are bad rather than the cable because I used the DP cable on my 580 with no trouble.

I guess you can try another cable just to be 100% certain.... I would RMA ASAP though.

I contacted them already (before I'd asked for everyone's help here and did my testing) and got this message not too long afterward, "Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the order from the State of California, our physical office will closed until further notice. All departments will have remote access and we will be here to assist you with limited capacities. Although slight delays in response might occur, please leave us a detailed message and we will get back to you as soon as we can. "

So it almost sounds like I won't be able to RMA it. Not sure. I've never done this before, but once a card has been RMA'd and a replacement sent to the customer, who then discovers the replacement sent isn't 100% functional (ports bad, etc.) does the customer had to open another RMA ticket?

I would open a new ticket and put your old tickets case number in the claim information and let them know whats going on if it doesn't let you add to or reopen the old ticket.

Alright, I started a new ticket and explained my issue. Given the circumstances, I'll keep my fingers crossed

I might have missed something, but you didn't respond to @oxrufiioxo fully, cables go bad way more often than two DP ports on a GPU, seriously try a different DP cable on both DP ports. we already confirmed the monitor DP port is fine cause the 580 works with it, so it only leaves one more variable, its a bad DP cable? maybe it works with 580 but for some reason doesn't work with the XT? I know that doesn't have any logic in it, but lets face it AMD hardware has always been finnicky. I'd say try an extra DP cable before fully giving up and RMA'ing

doesn't HDMi do 144hz 1440p with freesync on? so is there any reason you need to use the DP cable?

Well at least you don't have a brick, you game at 165hz 1080p, and I believe HDMI supports that, and your monitor looks relatively new model wise... so really you might consider just saving yourself the headache of all of it at this point and just enjoy some gaming over HDMI.

if it were me, I'd try a different DP cable, surely you can borrow one from someone you know, and if that still doesn't fix it then RMA, or just be content with HDMI 165hz 1080p gaming. even if you did upgrade to a 4k 144hz monitor someday, i mean, the xt would be pointless at that resolution and refresh anyway. so meh

I just finished playing Sonic Mania Plus on steam (I know it's not the most taxing game, but I love it lol) and even though my monitor is rated for 165hz, my HDMI cable is only able to go up to 144hz. Through the DP, it was able to max it at 165hz. I'm not bitching or anything, just thought I'd throw that out there.

At this point, I'm just so mentally exhausted with this whole thing and with the current circumstances regarding the coronavirus that I think I'm just going to take what victories the XT is willing to give me, lol.

Of course, I haven't entirely ruled out potential interest in the card, yet. I'll give it a couple weeks (in that time I'll see if I can get Gigabyte to send me another DP cable, as the monitor is still under warranty. If not, I'll buy one) and reassess things then. For now though, she's staying put.

check and make sure the monitor cable is actually in properly a PC I recently worked on had the same issue you're describing turned out that the HDMI or Display ports weren't lining up properly with the slot and the cable wasn't quite in far enough for a signal to go through (some cases just have shit construction QA)

@EarthDog Did you not read my full post? apparently not. I said although logic states the DP should work since it worked with 580, there is a small chance the XT simply requires a higher end DP cable or maybe its just a bit off in its design and a different one might work. I know its 99% chance unlikely, but I have seen weirder things than that occur. but thanks for reading my full post I guess...

@op glad to see you are just wiping the headache away and enjoying it over HDMI, sorry you had so much headache. if next DP cable doesn't work, just keep doing the RMA process, I am sure they will get you sorted eventually! you really should be doing 165hz since that what you paid for, until then though enjoy the 144hz :)

Thanks man. But I can't just keep shelling out $18-$20 shipping this thing back and forth because something on it isn't working properly, and adding to the $450 I spent for the original card, you know? I know shit happens, especially when it comes to tech products, but it's really frustrating when you pay X dollars for something and it gives you nothing but headaches. And I'm sorry if I sound petty, but I'm not really content with a partially gimped card I payed a big chunk of money for and can't utilize it to its fullest because two ports are gimped.

Car analogy time, lol: That would be like spending $8000 on a supercharger for your muscle car that would add 500 HP and only being able to utilize half of it.

Yeah it definitely sucks.... I would suggest waiting and buying all parts together preferable from amazon that way you can get a replacement for free with likely next day shipping.

knock on wood out of about 20 builds over the last 2 years I've only had issues with 2 GPU.

OK, bit of an update regarding my (mis)adventures with my 5700 XT. After deciding to hang on to it and play the RMA game with Sapphire, I figured I'd do some more testing as well just to cover my bases.

Forget about DP ports that aren't working. It's worse. Much, much worse.

Ya know the MANY, MANY complaints from 5700/XT owners about the drivers being shit and rendering their cards damn near useless? It's no BS. I found that out after managing to get my card to show a picture via DP...but once I began to install the most recent drivers for it via AMD's site, the thing totally crapped out. Had no signal via DP OR HDMI. It's a complete shitshow. This is actually WORSE than faulty DP ports because I can at least keep RMAing the card.

Seriously, WTF am I gonna do now?:banghead:

Hold on... did the card work with older drivers before? If not, the card is probably dead. I had an Nvidia card did that at work last year. Displays look okay and as soon as the driver loads, I got nothing. Our supplier sent a replacement as soon as he heard my description.

^ I was never able to get a signal/picture on the first card I got, the original purchase from Newegg, so I RMA'd it. As such, I wasn't even able to test out drivers or anything. With this second card, after a bit of musical cables (booting up via HDMI, then while the rig was still on, plug in the DP cable) I got a signal through the DP port, went to download the XT drivers (I DDU'd before swapping out my 580) and that's when everything crapped out on me

Just to be clear, you ddu with the 580 installed while in safe mode with the remove and shutdown option then booted up with the 5700XT tried to install the drivers and the PC black screened?

I'm using my 580 as I type this. She's working just fine. Downloaded the most recent drivers and everything.

Well that's good at least... I've only dealt with 3 5700XT models and the only one to give me issues with display port was a Red Devil Card. The other two worked just fine one being your exact card.

Shame you don't live closer I have 2 Aorus Master systems I could test it in 3700X and 3900X.

Either way it doesn't seem to like your system for whatever reason I would still Just RMA it and let them know all the issues you're dealing with.
