Ok, between core, memory, and shader, which one has the biggest impact on game play?

Or, let me put it this way. If you could only overclock one, which would it be?

Let me go more into detail.

If I just OC the core on my GTS 250, I can get it to 823 (738 is stock) it is very stable and a temp of 68c. But, at that speed the Shader and Memory clocks wont go very high at all. So, am I better off going with the higher core and mediocre mem and shader?

Link core and shader and OC that. OCing memory doesn't make much of a difference unless it's something like 800mhz to 1100mhz.

When I linked them together, I couldnt get as high on the core. Perhaps I wasnt reading it correctly. I plan on doing some more testing tonight.

I know this is not a monster OC'ing card. With only a 6 pin conn and no "soft" voltage mods available I dont expect too much. But would definitely like to get as much as possible.

Although I have made some mods to the stock HSF, I am considering putting my Zalman ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118116 ) On it and seeing if that helps drop my temps.

A mediocre core and shader OC has more impact than highly overclocking one or the other. Is that what your asking? If nto Shaders on nvidia have more of an impact in D3D, core in OpenGL.

They all need to be oc'd. Memory makes a big impact for my card. Shaders do as well. Core in fact has the least need for oc in most situations in my case. It really just depends on situation. Since I believe the 250 is a 9800gt rebrand, I would say shader>mem>core in order of importance, but like shadow said link core and shader, and really I would just steadily increase all until you find nirvana.

( What is Folding? )
Folding at Home is a distributed client program, similar to SETI, in that it uses your free CPU cycles to help understand how proteins are assembled, or folded. The project is put on by Stanford University whose goal is to find out how proteins assemble themselves and why they sometime misfold. This misfolding is related to many serious diseases including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

By donating your spare CPU cycles to the Folding team you are pitching in to help find out how this process works and eventually to find a cure. Not only will you be doing a good deed for humanity but you will enjoy participating in our team and promoting the healthy competition among team members to produce the most work units of our group.

How Do I Start?
First you will need to go to the Stanford Folding site and download the latest client. Their are three primary downloads for the PC which include: Graphical Client, Graphical Client (screensaver only), and the command line version. There are also downloads for Linux and the Mac OS X.

After downloading any of the above clients, simply run the program and enter a desired user name and our team number (38296). You may choose to scale down the % of the CPU used, for example 85% if you use your computer throughout the day. The default setting will run at 100% (If you run Hyper-Threading it will only run 50% when set at 100%)
