Add more ram it adds latency. I don't know why it would be different considering all the other specs are the same.

Could it be the difference between running T1 and T2? that is assuming it was 2gb sticks.

I find this a little odd
"PhysicsTest 580 15.4FPS 69xx 19.38 FPS"

I thought the physics test was on the cpu? and both results are listed with the same cpu at the same speed although the 69xx result only has half the ram for some reason.

there is a physics test using both CPU for hard structures and direct compute for soft items. it could be this test they are referencing

Does it say that it's running T1 or T2? I'm pretty sure it's 8gb having a higher latency than the 4gb. You can run that same timings on both 4gb and 8gb and the latency will be higher on 8gb.

He finally posted his 480 stock 3D11 score of X1650 and P5017. 6970 stock in 3D11 is X1776 and P4939 Using 4gigs of ram. However, I'm reading that he's not using the same drivers that the reviews will use.

T.T its starting to look like the GTX480 will beat the 6970 at launch, amd usually is not so good with drivers and they haven't done anything as radical as this core since the 2900xt

damn im dissapointed, dam you erocker

but im sure better drivers will give a big improvement, maybe they will hit next week?

ill still wait for W1zzards review first before i make a decision as then we will know the real performance #s were still talking 3dmark here lol not real games so lets just wait for a review that i dont know actually benchs with something a bit more in line with what most of us will use these gpus for :toast:

also it was never stated if they had disabled the power control or w.e the hell it is if its enabled it might be running slower then if its allowed to run full bore

you dont have seen yet, what 6000 series can offer you...

10.11beta is not a really prepared driver, problems exist with amd catalyst development at this point, since a new architecture couldn't be controlled with non-proper packages...

the official support for both 68xx and 69xx will come with 10.12...(even with hotfixes)

until reviewers get the official 10.12, everything is fake, bull**** and attack to amd...

6000 series are not unleashed, yet...10.12 to 11.5, at 6th month will give the maximum...

so its seems the driver won't ready yet, i hope its can atleast a lil bit faster than GTX 580

I heard the HD 6970 and HD 6950 is highly programmable via drivers a lot more than the Evergreen series. AMD is planning a surprise driver on steroids shortly after Cayman’s official release that should give the HD 6970 a massive 15% to 25% performance increase in “some” games while others not being all that affected.

My source, well just wait for AMD’s driver release and reviews, you’ll see.

If this is all true then my 6870's were a great purchase. It means that my 6870's will smoke a 6970. The sad news is though.... if a GTX 480 is a little faster then a 6970 that would mean a 6950 would be just a tad faster then a 6870! Which would really suck for AMD unless priced right. Because why would people buy a 6950 when they could save a couple of bucks and still grab a 6870 and be almost just as fast. I also expect the 6870 to increase in performance when the 10.12 drivers release.
Sad that AMD might have had us wait for such a sad bomber of a card. But.... still depending on how good the new architecture is.... that might mean the 7000 series will be crazy good. Kind of like the GTX 400 to GTX 500.

But damn man if these scores are real.... my 6870's way out do the GTX 580/480/570/6970/6950 in 3Dmark11. <---- P8657 (Of course there is two of them though :) )

Hey you never know. Didn't they release not to long ago a crossfire-supported HD 5670??

Maybe the GPU gods will bless us one day with 4 way support.

there is a physics test using both CPU for hard structures and direct compute for soft items. it could be this test they are referencing

PhysicsTest
15.4
19.38
FPS
CombinedTest
10.37
9.5
FPS

I assumed the combined test was the one where the CPU for hard structures and direct compute for soft items thus my confusion still stands
Does it say that it's running T1 or T2? I'm pretty sure it's 8gb having a higher latency than the 4gb. You can run that same timings on both 4gb and 8gb and the latency will be higher on 8gb.

I think i have not worded myself well, i understand more ram, means more latency but i was curious if using 4gb at t1 and 8gb at t2 would make the difference bigger.

I just remember reading somewhere that the difference between t1 and t2 would only be noticeable in benchmarks

Really there is one very important thing to remember about all my posts over the next month.... i will probably be drunk or hung over thus stupid and ignorant  please forgive my stupidity :p

either that or i should be quiet until the year is over

I can`t help at notice that they are using 1055 x6 cpu`s when Amd themselves used a Intel based machine for the numbers. Was there not a pic of the presentation at 6870 launch of them using Intel based machine....

That would be much more respectable if it was the 6950, but even if Nvidia had not brought out the 580 an 570 this would be far from impressive.

If those results are accurate it really makes me wonder what AMD were thinking, I'm sure a 5870 with a 1ghz core and 1375mhz memory would not be far off those results.

*edit*
Well I'm almost right, a 5870 with 1050 core and 1350 memory paired with an overclocked i7 in the 3dmark11 score thread gave 5293 and in the results in your post a 6970 only gives 4939 so not exactly impressive for the next generation at stock speeds but I'm very interested to see how the 6970 overclocks.

While that would be a respectable as a 6950 score.... you know if they price these cards at $350 (6970's) then we could have another 4870 on our hands.

And that I would not be opposed too. That IMO would be freaking awesome in this economy! All people get to buy cards that are powerful as hell but don't cost you an arm and a leg! Of course that would mean the 6950 would have to be priced at $300 to $275 and the 6870/6850's price would have to drop down. But none the less.... I would have no problem spending money on a card like that.... If it were to happen! :rockout:

But sadly I doubt it because it is new architecture

I think they are correct, if you look at the heaven results, it's exactly double a 5870's results which matches the AMD's slides showing the 6970 having 2-3x tessellation performance over a 5870.

Sorry to double post but I looked up the 6970 in Vantage score on performance Preset. And damn a score of only 20k..... That buy all means is not a 5870 doubled! If I really try with a single 6870 I can hit 18k to 19k!!! Chit I already have!

In tessellation performance....sure that is double but not in overall performance!
