Official "Next Car Game" Thread

There has been a little chatter about this game in the Games section, but since the game has been dropped on Steam in the Early Access program I thought I would dedicate a thread to it.

I picked this up on Steam, and here are my thoughts of it in it's current pre-release state.

The racing portion of the game looks fun, but is painfully difficult using a keyboard to control the car in both gravel and on tarmac. So much so that after a few attempt I gave up on the racing.

The demolition derby portion, which is what I really wanted anyway, is probably the most fun I've had with a game in a long time. The graphics are great, the damage modelling is awesome (it's an absolute wreck-fest with parts flying everywhere), and even with a keyboard it's easily playable. The game runs great on my system (although admittedly I am running in Crossfire, but there is no profile for the game) at 2560x1600 with all the bells and whistles that are currently available turned on (with the exception of AA which I never use).

There is definitely still a LOT of work that Bugbear needs to do on the game, but IMO, once multiplayer is added it's going to be an outstanding game.

Is anyone else playing this? What do you think?

I was a backer of their kickstarter before they cancelled it. Planning on picking this up eventually. I was a big fan of FlatOut1 and 2.

Instead of using kickstarter for funding they will now use the money from pre-order sales for funding,you can preorder the game on steam.

They cancelled their Kickstarter and moved funding to their own website. Then they got Greenlit on Steam and are now in the Early Access program there. I believe you can buy in at their website (and receive a Steam key) and they have different backer options there other than just the regular and digital deluxe that is on Steam.

@Eroticus Why did the control system suck in GRID? I never played either.
Remember too that this game is Pre-alpha so there are a lot of bugs.
One of my favorites at the moment is when an AI car gets it's entire front end ripped off in the demo derby (no motor, no front wheels) and it's still driving around.

The demo derby is crazy fun. Really looking forward to MP, which Bugbear is currently testing in-house.
Version 2.0 of the tech demo is also a lot of fun to goof off with.

I was talking with the Lead Game Designer at Bugbear, new stuff coming this spring that they are working on in-house now.

Yeah, GRID 3. Supposedly they're putting the cockpit back in.

I can't wait till they add multiplayer to this game!

I host occasionally and am very stable for East coasters and US in specific.
People tell me they get a very good ping and virtually never lag.
I don't go above 16 players though on races.

I also host a teamspeak for 10 people.
I can increase the size if we get more people on it.
We do have people stop in though and I spam the TS info once I start hosting.
Feel free to use it for the game any time.

I just ask people try to stay in the same game when using it.
And no driving the wrong way..lol
