@Dinnercore

Good to see another competitor running the E8600. I'm sorry to say my results leave something to be desired as well... With this same processor I've been able to hit a 510Mhz FSB. I'm currently working with setFSB to see if I can squeeze a few more megahertz out of it. Part of the problem is ambient temps. It's about 72*F here and I can't adjust the thermostat in my room, so I have to work with the higher temps and I think that's partly why my results are a little off from what they once were. Good news though, I found the correct clock generator to work with my Asus P5Q3 motherboard...

@storm-chaser It is pretty obvious for me now that getting into OC on these 10+ year old parts has cranked the lottery factor to 11. Good job on getting it to 4.7GHz!

Here is my best shot at CB15 for my E8400:

As a sanity check after my weak E8600 result I did a comparison on my E8500s to see if that 5GHz on one of them was just a lucky day and I will never see that again BUT it turns out it´s just the silicon quality that seems to do it. I have 3 E8500s in E0 stepping. The worst one can not hit 4.6GHz at all. I tried up to 1.62V, up to 1.7 PLL / 1.4 VTT. Nope it will not boot 4.6GHz. The other one does 4.65GHz on 1.35V. It goes to 5GHz at 1.45V. That is an incredible difference to me.

Nope. Ambient only.

Can a mod please add that into the “ground rules”...?

Something to the effect of: “Use ambient cooling only. This is limited to air and/or water cooling.”

Thanks!

I have a leaderboard made up for the AIDA64 Cache and Memory Benchmark ... anyone want to play?

@TheMadDutchDude Don't mean to step on your toes, I thought maybe we could run in this benchmark in tandem.…
Or let me know and I'll start my own thread...

EDIT: Leaderboard Updated 4/20 11:30 AM

Hell yeah! Let's add it into the mix. :)

I've got stuff stored in Excel right now. I just need to migrate it to the Gdocs or something to make it easily accessible.

Actually, as per the very first response to this thread, too, let's add an OC percentage rank too! :D

Great. I'll get it started with my Phenom II rig, try to follow this format so I have all the necessary data for our leaderboards...

Link to the sheet(s) has been added. I'm still working on them, but they're getting there. I lost my Excel document where I had the numbers stored thus far. :(

Please let me know if we need to add anything to it. I *think* I've covered most bases.

Time for me to start playing... out with the new and in with the old legend. :D

Fps overclock. Good times:D, but is sadly a dying breed these days as oc now a days is mostly multiplier.

X58/lga 1366 is that accepted as well, as this also oc via blck with is fsb on core 2 series?

Edit: bummer after reading rules i see core 2 or amd or older. So no X58:cry:

We can throw X58 into the next one, fella. :)

@trickson - we aren't using the extreme version, just the normal R15. :)

Isn't it in the same class? I thought it had the same arch I aint as up on this stuff as you all.
FX is not the same as Phenom II, but it's not my contest either so I'll let the OP make the decision.

I went ahead and filled out some information on the spreadsheet in the first post. Still missing some results for spi 1m and you guys need to confirm the cooling method you used. If you did not mention it in a post or I missed it, I just filled in 'Air (?)'. In case you are using water, just change it :)

OK, maybe at my age, I don't have a high enough testoserone level, but I don't see how this is worth my T&E. I mean I do understand any discussion that involves better performance in things that folks actually do on an every day on their PC or even once a week basis. But as synthetic benchmark performance bears little correlation, I'd rather read about application based performance or at least an application based benchmark like RoG Real Bench ... emphasis on the "Real" in the title cause it uses real applications. Not a complaint, as w/ 43 posts there's obviously interest in the topic but ... just for something different ... it would be a refreshing change.

It's not aimed for people not willing to do this in their spare time. It's a bit of friendly competition. Some of us have more time on their hands than others, and that's fine. It's all about enjoying yourself and nothing more. :)

I will be using this to create submissions to use at HWBOT, for example. Each to his own, as they say.

As @TheMadDutchDude stated, this is a friendly competition at its root... For the most part, these benchmarks were chosen by the techpowerup community.

AIDA64 Cache and Memory Benchmark is as real as it gets in terms of defining system performance. Knowing the #s here will provide a system performance baseline from which to improve upon. Your argument is like saying only home runs matter in a ball game and all other stats should be left out.

I do have some trouble to get AIDA64 to run on my testbench. It just wont start, always hanging during the loading thingy and hard locking my whole system, including crashing one of the boards bus-systems as it seems, since on reset the board is completly upset and does 2 power offs + recommending bios defaults (only due to AIDA and even when running rock stable stock settings, I can reproduce that and it doesn´t do that with anything else :/ ) I might look into it again later.

A question regarding the competition: Do we include Xeons (LGA 771 to 775 mod)? I would like to try them out.

Hmmm. I've never heard of this AIDA64 issue you speak of.. I would recommend downloading the latest version from the AIDA64 website... either extreme or engineer edition, either should work. I've used AIDA64 on well over 20 machines without any compatibility issues but it sounds like you may be running into a showstopper of a problem. Don't know what to tell you if the latest versions don't help resolve the problem. What OS are you running?

I did download the latest version of extreme from the website and I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I suspect an issue with AIDA wanting to read some information of the board that it can´t get due to a missing driver or sth. I just installed the chipset driver itself and did not bother with the Marvell LAN, audio etc.. I´m using the P5Q-E, just in case anyone else is using that board.
