You're going to be dissapointed if you expect other games to look as good as crysis, even with dx10. Crysis has the best fps graphics by far, it can be difficult to go back to older or less polished games after playing crysis.
That depends, I really didn't like Crysis or how it implemented it's gameplay into the FPS genre, it was fun for a couple hours, beyond that, to me at least...nothing more than eye candy that was better to watch than to play. But if you wanna play super-Rambo in the future with a sweet uber-future combat suit, it's definately the way to go hands down. The game does look very good and to this day shows us what games can and will look like more often than not in the future, but at the same time it was dissapointing gameplay-wise...it just never hooked me. Gameplay is by and far the first preference for many, including myself, extra goodies like graphics and DX versions are bonuses. A game isn't worth anything if it's not fun to the person playing it, good graphics or not.

You couldn't run it maxed out with duel 4850's? What resolution were you running?
1920x1200. It's not surprising that I couldn't max it out. I personally think it is more challenging to hardware then crysis is.

by max out I mean full AA and everything on the highest setting too.

I thought the "ultra settings" hackers found Crysis to not be DX10 at all, only that certain settings were only available to you if you had DX10. (But then they hacked it to let DX9 users choose those settings.) ?

a few comments suggested otherwise, but DX10.1's only advantage over DX10, is that AA is handled faster.

S:CS makes Crysis look like a nice cartoon. A really nice cartoon but one none the less.
You'll know what I mean when your running dx10 and find yourself caught in a thunderstorm in the middle of the night and you hear a blood sucker near by. UNPARALLELED, seriously you can smell the atmosphere.

+1 to that. The DX10.1 AA feature is very nice too. It's very hard to run, you pretty much need a Crossfire setup to get it maxed with AA. But once you do.. It's seriously the best game out.

yeah but then you get teh game crashes, savegame corruption, uncompletable quests...

I played that game 4 times through, and only actually got to finish it once, and that took a community made patch.

Most of the DX10 games on that list are just DX9 games with a DX10 lighting pass. I like DX10, but I've yet to see a game that really made me go "Wow!" when playing in DX10 over DX9 at max settings.
Only DX10(.1) game that's worth it's salt in terms of graphics is STALKER: Clear Sky

this vid showcases (albeit not in high-quality) some of the DX10 effects: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcFz0ilsV3w

I think we can all agree the fact that you have to take a screenie and analyse to make sure something is dx10/9 means dx10 is nothing at all special . And 11 is coming soon so its already too late for it. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
On a S:CS related note, I have had issues with the game too but nothing more serious than trying to get a game to run in STEAM - Argh! I just installed CS on my new i7 build, patched and then added all yummy mods, jumped right in, and not a single serious issue yet. Heres hoping I didnt just jinx myself!

make sure you're running the most recent patch (1.5.08). Although it only appears to fix MP issues, it does make some changes to SP - they're just not listed in the change log.

I've never been much of a gamer, but i've just played my first directx 10 game (cyrsis) and, oh man... the graphics are AWESOME! And i'm just playing it on a HD 4670

The only other games i've played has been Madden and GTA ... I think i'm gonna upgrade my video card tomorrow!! Can someone give a brief list of other directx 10 games?

Thanks ...
So you've been converted to a gamer by fantastic graphics? Awesome!

You could try running Crysis in DX9 mode to improve your framerates. Apparently, there's not much visual difference and gives much better performance.

If you haven't heard of it yet, Fraps is an incredibly useful free utility for measuring your FPS.

Wizz you should write the facts about DX11. I was under the same impression that DX10 hardware would run DX11. I think a lot of people are confused about DX11. It might even effect their buying decisions. If you can please take the time to enlighten us. Pretty please :D
