Hey fellow TPU enthusiasts!

I promised that I'd come up with some kind of competition for the forum over the weekend, but I am struggling to come up with a format that everyone might enjoy. I figured it would therefore be best to ask what benchmarks you'd like to see in the competition. That way it is more of a community thing rather than just me making the choices.

Let's include AMD in this as well... so I think we should limit to 775 and Phenom II quad cores. That'll make the playing field much more accessible for many players.

Let me know what you think. I'm all ears at this point.

I'd like to know a few things from you guys;
What sort of a time frame are we after?
Cooling limitations? Maintain >0c ambient and water/air temps?
Core speed limitations?
Compare single/dual/quad scores by dividing the end score by 'x' where 'x' is the amount of cores in multi-threaded benchmarks?

Help me out a little, guys! Let's get this party started! :D

To me as long as positive temps (Above 0c) are maintained that should be fine.

Proof of such would have to be shown within the screenie taken and said monitoring of temps would have to be done as the bench is ran along with a photo of the rig being benched.

EDIT:
I'll also throw in the latest CPU-Z should be used with CPU, board and memory tabs shown, anything benching a GPU (3D) should have all that plus a reading from the latest GPU-Z included.

Id say the competition should run for at least a month.

How about the AIDA64 cache and memory benchmark?

This would give us some insight on RAM and cache performance.

And as I mentioned in the other thread, I have templets already geared for AIDA64 results.

Well I do have two pentium Ds floating around in my collection... @hat

'What sort of a time frame are we after?' - How about a month and a half? I can imagine it will be difficult to find enough time between job/family etc. for extended benching and troubleshooting. Just a week or two would put a lot of pressure on people.

'Cooling limitations? Maintain >0c ambient and water/air temps?' - I vote for ambient only OR exclude the extreme cooling scores from the ambient ones. E.g. someone wants to run LN2, why not. But he can´t compete with this score vs ambient cooling class.

'Core speed limitations?' - I don´t see why, but I´m open for the idea.

'Compare single/dual/quad scores by dividing the end score by 'x' where 'x' is the amount of cores in multi-threaded benchmarks?' - I think with SuperPI we already have a measurement for single core performance? In addition we could just run CB-15 single core test on top of the regular one. Dividing scores will add more work and potential room for error on the chart.

As for organisation I have a question, do you want us to post scores ONCE e.g. we can only submit one score per CPU/test as our best shot? Or would you accept an update on score if we manage to improve?

To reply to @Dinnercore - the reason you limit clock speeds in a certain benchmark is to prove how efficient you are. It makes tweaking more important to edge out the competition. :)

I like the idea of an old school PCMark05 test! That was a real brain teaser back in the day.

I have something that might make a few smiles with PC Mark if we don't limit the XP Startup speed scores.... :)

Good to see we will be adding Phenom IIs to the competition. I have two 960Ts, a 965 and a 970 BE that I'll be running in addition to the C2Ds / C2Qs.

That's always the hope, but it's a double edged sword of course. Nothing stopping anybody from running slightly above the limit and then just backing it down for the screenshot.
When there aren't prizes involved it's not as common but some people just do it anyway just to be 1st.

I mean I do like the concept of limited freq comps but they always end up being a debacle to deal with in reality.

Awesome. Would be nice if only aircooling Was allowed, because that would make the playing field more Level. Most of my components I have here are 775 and AM2, so I'm all game, if I get the time. How many CPUs per User would be allowed?

I was honestly hoping for a little more input... but soon! Let’s give it this week to let any stragglers get in on the decisions.
