I was honestly hoping for a little more input... but soon! Let’s give it this week to let any stragglers get in on the decisions.

I say we pull the trigger based on existing data from the 16 voters! Seems everyone is going all in for CB R15. And maybe X265 1980P?

And no restrictions on CPU clock, IMO. We should have an all out category for maxing out clock speed as displayed by CPUz, just going for broke with big numbers.

Just some ideas... not trying to pressure you into making decisions, but I'm for one chomping at the bit! lol

I'm in with a Q6600 (drooled over these back in the day... never got one until last year lol)
E7500
Phenom II x4 945
(Maybe some others?)

And honestly, I'm willing to burn them all except maybe I might be a little careful with the Q6600 just because of nostalgia lol.

I too remember wanting a Q6600 really badly when I was stuck with a donated E5200 after a donated E2140 from the same guy. I wonder if he is still floating around somewhere... he was a really generous fella. :)

A'ight. I'll start the drawing board! I'm not too busy at work and spend most of my day looking for a new job anyway. :D

I tried upgrading my E8400 with a Q6600. It was like going from a 400 hp sports cars to a 400 hp 4*4 truck. Sure, the power was there, but not the quickness. Had the Q6600 for about 2 weeks before upgrading to a Q9650, and the quickness was back. The E8400 and Q9650 were 4.5 GHz capable in both a EVGA 750i FTW and Gigabyte EP45 UD3P (I think).

I might get in on this. I have a Phenom II 940 GTX 280 sli system sitting in boxes in my room.

I sadly think I missed out on the Q6600, I was a bit of a numpty and went straight for the QX9650  How stupid was I... I should have tried the Q6600 which I think I've a couple of now at home (hopefully G0 models....)

Overclocking back then was fun, it seems to have been taken away a little now :( I remember having some Crucial ram as well, PC5300.. Used to work flawlessly at PC8500 (533Mhz to 1066Mhz if I recall??) shame I had a 780i board back then, that did suck.... :(

775 OC is wild stuff, I might jump in on the quad core action too. Seems like CB-R15, the SuperPI tests and X265 1080P will be in for sure.

I wish I had some old parts around that I knew how they were treated the past 10 years, getting all the things today is silicon lottery but with 10x worse chances. One of my 780i boards turned up as 'working' with 2 dead ram slots, a bios chip that can´t hold its data for more then a day and overall very poor performance. The other two 780i boards hard cap at FSB 501, my 790i Ultra (Striker II Extreme) is very picky with VTT and RAM settings and corrupts windows installations every 2-3 crashes (still my best performing board so far but unusable if I need to reinstall windows every 10 minutes). My Gigabyte GA-965-DQ6 arrived dead. The RAM I got is only working well with the 780i boards while on the P45 P5Q-E the RAM is the thing hard-capping FSB at 500. None of my Kingston HyperX Kits runs at the advertised speeds of 1066 / 1150 and my G.Skill + OCZ 1200 sticks don´t even boot at all on the P5Q-e.

Compared to how boring and smooth things flow with todays parts this is very exciting stuff. And big respect to anyone reaching beyond 500 on the FSB in this competition, that itself is quite an achievement.

3DMark 03/05/06 (with proper GPU, they should be CPU 'necked most of the time).
Limiting to 03 and 06 is also fine.

Maybe API Overhead for DX12 (if anyone plans on using DX12 capable card, it's more to see how much can be extracted) ?
However API test scales wtih architecture more than with CPU speed, so it's kind-of compatibility test (ie. can your PC run DX12 test, and how well it does it).

For games :
Crysis Benchmark Tool(s) (Assault map benchmark : 2560x1440, MSAA 4x Very High [Vista+], and/or 1920x1080, High, noAA [Win XP])
Quake III Arena (closest to 1000FPS wins ;))
F.E.A.R. (build-in benchmark)
Maybe S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (it doesn't require game to work) ?

500 FSB on a quad is incredibly hard to achieve. On a dual such as the E8400, 600+ doesn’t take much effort. I’ll let my 8500 fly and see what happens. :D

Instead of Micheal Phelps, I think a pretty good OC'ing guy with too much free time and awesome motherbaord/CPU ;)
But don't worry, I don't plan to compete.

I mean, it is very difficult in general. Those that have the right board and knowledge can do it pretty easily...

Damn, I have only DDR2 platform for AMD, though it's a 940 BE so it does support only DDR2. But I guess I'll be benching something too. :)

3D MARK 05 or 06 (as well as others) ? I think to be fair there needs to be more then one test
Agree! My bench rig will be 940 BE, 4 gigs DDR-800 ECC, Radeon HD 4890

I started drawing it up last night, but my brain was fried. I’m hoping to work on it more this evening. :)

Don´t stress yourself with it, I think we all got time. And it´s not like the hardware will go anywhere soon :D

@TheMadDutchDude

Please disregard if you've already created the comp...

However, its been well over two weeks from when we started planning this competition.
I don't want to be that guy, but I think we should start as soon as possible. Strike while the iron is hot, so to speak.
I understand your busy, but building a leaderboard and setting basic ground rules should be relatively painless.
The difficult and time consuming part comes when you have tabulate results and update the leaderboards on a daily basis, IMO

If you guys want to run AIDA64 cache and memory benchmark as a supplement until the main competition rolls out, we can get started on that today.

ps no hard feelings I hope this doesn't offend you that's not my intent. My intent is to unify our group around the aforenoted competition so I'm a little eager to get started!
