You'd be surprised by how common those old TVs from the 70s/80s still are, whether they are in isolated areas or underdeveloped nation.
That TV owner should somehow be compensated for not allowing to use his age old TV anymore. It isn't his/her fault after all. No one is really to blame here.

He is from Wales which is not exactly poor. He can get any basic used TV he can find for onder €60 (less than a day's work in a country like his) and have a far better set anyway (interference or not).

Analogue transmission was switch off long time ago. I'm wondering why the user would even turn it on as there's nothing to watch.

Could be they still had a use for it - I've got one here I use strictly for older gaming consoles as an example.

However the fact the owner of it complied without arguement is in itself good and shows there was no intent for this to happen in the first place.
I do hope they got a replacement that suits their needs.

To be precise, he/she is from a rural village in Wales, so we don't exactly know if the individual is poor or well off but most likely is cuz the TV set the resident has is a 2nd hand TV. Nor does his/her financial capability matter as he/she should still be compensated somehow for not allowing to use his/her TV if he/she doesn't use the internet.

Prolly not in Wales. It certainly hasn't happened here in Guam.

One of the stories said it was a Bush LCD tv that was causing the interference.

Could have been, any electronic device is capable of it and in this instance it was well capable of it regardless of what it really was. :)

It was on thinkbroadband in the comments section. The Sun have `tracked` the owners down and are sending them a new TV. I didn`t read the newspaper article myself though.

Probably used in conjunction with a set top freeview box

my brother still uses an old analog TV in conjuction with his Amatur Radio equipment.

I should have known better, I had such a set-up when digital transmission first started. I've now moved to TVs that have built-in satellite decoder.
