i have several games listed below that i can no longer play on my main box (vista 64). I have an older athlon xp 2200+ i want to resurrect to play these games. my dilemma is the video card, i have a GF 4600 Ti and a GF 5700 (non ultra or LE). the system will be hooked into my 17" LCD, so for those games that can, i would like to play at native res (1280x1024). Also, since i am seeking opinions, i was gonna load up ME on it, though i have considered XP. The only reason for ME is that it is part of the 9x linege, and 2 games i want to play have some issues with XP; one of them, ST: Armada is just unplayable IMO under XP (graphics corruption with nvidia drivers under XP)

Games:
Star Trek: Klingon Academy & Starfleet Academy
Star Trek: Armada
Star Trek: New Worlds
Star Trek: Starfleet Command (1 & 2)
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Janes: USAF
GTA III & Vice City
Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 1 & 2

Your Ti4600 will easy out preform the FX5700. I'd install xp then partition the hd to install Me. Me is so old & unstable & i doubt microsoft still have updates availible so its going to be very vulnerable if you go online.

Is Windows 2000 an option ? It is still somewhat supported driver-wise.

go xp and the 4600. unless you really need directx 9.0c, the ti is your best bet.

as for the os, go xp hands down. heavily supported and has compatibility mod, so wtf.

If not, you can always do dual boot ;).

thanks for the info... seems like the consensus is for the ol' 4600 Ti. I'm still up in the air about the OS, as it would not get online so security is moot. As the hardware is equally as old, drivers are also rather moot, as i have 98se/ME/2k/xp drivers for all the hardware (even the gamepads and joysticks) I guess I'll just load up 98, run a few games, go ME, repeat, go 2k, repeat. Though a techie now (XP/Vista era) i was just a computer noob at the time of 98/me/2k so knowing the differences and the ins & outs are a bit difficult as its all based on reading. Once again, thanks for everyone's input so far...
