Any weird flickers or weird lines while doing it or any quick little black dots??? Or rain coming across the screen. Run it for about 5mins if none of that happens I don't think it's your video card dying then.

Even with running that and nothing happens then you should be about 90% safe that it is not your card. I would game for a couple hours just to be sure of that. If both tests pass.... then you can be certain it's not your card. It's something else.

good to know it was just vsync, looks like I was a bit useful today, had that problem before with an older card (used to play WoW)... :)

just don't forget, sometimes, if fps is too high, it causes screen tearing, but its normal. even the temps you mentioned with furmark is normal, I'd recommend using trixx (since your on sapphire bios) to manually control the fan.

Ok a couple things. I'm running a i5 760 @ over 4000Mhz, 8GB of RAM with tight timings @ 1600Mhz and a HD6950 w/ 6970 BIOS @ 900Mhz, and my best 3DMark11 score was P5408. You think your score is bad? Or was it just low FPS in games? Maybe I missed something reading this thread... Cause if this is a bad score for my system ( <---my specs are filled out to the left) I have to reevaluate wtf is going on with my system. I thought this was a respectable score.

As for WoW, I highly suggest setting the FPS limiter in the options. I think it caps at 100 FPS. This is plenty of frames and will stop your card from getting crazy hot for no reason pumping out 200-300+ frames.

dont run furmark. that program does more harm to your card then good. it destroys the life of the card. if your going to test stability play a graphic intense game like metro 2033, Crysis, or BattleField

I only get around 50-70 FPS in WoW too.... It's taking more PC power since WoW is now a full world where you can fly everywhere, the programmers could leave any part of the world unfinished if it wasnt seen by the eye, before cata came out, cause now you can fly over mountains. And this would naturally take up way more resources. They explain it in the collectors edition DVD, which you could find somewhere on the internet.

that sounds about right for the 3dmark score. what resolution are you gaming at??

maybe overclock your 920 to 3.4 3.6ghz will help. assuming you have an after market cooler

But since applications are being slow and stuff in windows it might be a driver problem and ati drivers have been crappy for a lot of people lately

return it and get a GTX560Ti??

Not really. The only bad drivers from nvidia have been the last like 2 or 3 releases and even then i never had a problem with them. not saying other people didnt i know they did in bc2. but ive had more problems with ati drivers and 0 with nvidia.

if WoW relies on CPU which it does he should buy a after market cooler and overclock that 920

sounds like cpu holding the card back but thats just me. especially considering it sounds like it was holding back the last card as well

You know I had a motherboard once that had a PCIe slot failing. If you have two try a different slot and see what happens. Just another thought.

I'm telling you try another slot if you have one. I am not guaranteeing that will fix it but I have had it happen too me. I wouldn't return the card they are about as powerful as each other and if your CPU is bottlenecking your GPU now then it would do the same to the GTX 570.

I think you should RMA the card. There is no reason for it to run that slow. Overclocked 920 or not. You should be seeing significant gains with that upgrade. If you still have your 275, plug it in, and send that card back.

That is if nothing is wrong with your mobo.

What were you scoring with your 275 in 3dmark?

RMA = return it to vendor and get a new one. Return Merchandise Authorization...just means send it back. Because if everything is the same in your system except for the card, then something is wrong with the card. especially if you reinstalled windows and loaded latest ati driver.

Well overclocking the video cards won't help buddy you should go for the CPU. Overclocking the video cards will only help..... once the CPU is clocked. That is were your bottle neck is at the CPU. Basically your video card is throwing so much powerful stuff at your CPU and your CPU (While even being a i7 920 ) is not fast enough to handle all of it at that high speed. Especially in single threaded games. So making your CPU be able to handle that information and process it faster will help out allot

dont run furmark. that program does more harm to your card then good. it destroys the life of the card. if your going to test stability play a graphic intense game like metro 2033, Crysis, or BattleField

ghen Ok,here's another problem

I see the screen tearing up, white lines are crossing from bottom to top .

i would recomend not flashing youre card to a 6970 bios.. but just unlock youre 6950 shaders..
many people started to have the same problem that you just have now.. and ended up permantly damange their cards, often just in a week with a 6970 bios!

here is a asus 6950 modded bios.. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0P3NBAXK

As suggested above, you should flash it with an unlocked 6950 bios as it will be much more stable. Check out this post to get started.

You guys really should not suggest a bios flash to 6970 when all the OP wants is an answer to his question.
It can potentially damage his card or cause instability.

I downloaded the file in the link Razi3l mentioned. There's a php file , mod.php , and run.bat inside.
What should I do?

Edit : I run run.bat and it says rename the original bios to original.bin , but then I press a button and it says "system cannot find the path specified"

Also I was using sapphire's bios for 6970 flashing. Should I try this one as this is Asus ?

The asus bios has a small OC with the core clock so its at 890/1375 instead of 880/1375, though you'd need the asus bios if you want smartdoctor to work

My hd6950 has been running at 6970 shaders 900/1450 for a month now with no issues, but some have been running into issues after the unlock. Good thing is that when I bought mine from my favorite local supplier, he was selling it as "unlocked to hd6970" so its tested to be stable at 6970 speeds for a small price premium ($10), and if it fails, I'm guaranteed an "unlocked" replacement as well for as long as the duration of the card's warranty... :)

Not really miss guided.... Just I figured it was a given to have that off when testing FPS. It seems there is a little inexperience with the gentleman we were helping. Which there is no shame in that for him!

Just figured... vsync would have been a gimme.... shows me sometimes I got to go back to even simpler solutions.

*** TO BIOS Flash****

Yes you can flash the BIOS on a 6950 to a 6970. But there is a reason they were decided to be 6950 instead of a 6970.....Why because they were not stable enough in the first place to be made the other way. So there is always a risk. To me it falls like this. ATI has made it really easy to flash the 6900 series. Which has some side effects. People who are not ready to flash their cards are now flashing their cards. (I am not implying that about anyone here it's just true though) Because of the way the ATI Has designed things.... ATI has allowed a bunch of noobs to start experimenting with things they shouldn't be just yet.

So yes there are going to be allot more botched flashes then normal right now because of that. Now that also doesn't mean a botched flash couldn't happen to an experienced person. Because it can..... and that seems to be happening too. For example..... it seems that it is not as stable as some people originally thought when flashing there 6950 to a 6970.

Also if I am correct ATI has started trickling out there cheaper PCB version of the cards. If that is really true (I'm not sure maybe someone else could verify.) That means cards that can be flashed with the 6970 BIOS and cards that can't are being mixed in with each other. That could cause problems for people who don't look at their PCB's before flashing them to see if it's even possible. Hence more bricked cards.

I say in the end just like any other BIOS flash.... if you are going to do it.... Do your research. And if you still want to do it. Then DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!! It is not a For sure thing!!!

Now after saying all that excuse me while I flash my old 6870 to a new BIOS with higher clocks :)

Well I'm all mixed up.

I tried to flash my 6950 with shader unlock but no luck so far. As I mentioned on the previous post,I get an error "system cannot find the path specified" .

So I flashed again via 6970 Bios , but this time with Asus bios, not Sapphire.
I did wrote on the " Poll: What caused your flashed 6950 permanent damage?" but wanted to report here too..

http://www.overclock.net/ati/923129-...hz-shader.html ---> Followed these steps , but the difference is they used the shader unlock bios , I used Asus 6970 one.
There it says Your GPU voltage will now be 1.175V (after playing with Asus SmartDoctor), should I play with the voltage or it should stay the same?

Its now setted to : 900/1450 with %20 PowerControl and stock voltage.

must be nvidias crappy driver that forgets to delete itself, might be better to reinstall windows or run DriverSweeper ;)

4800 i 3dmark11 is correct, the old card he has will only do 1000 or something in 3dmark11 if it was dx11 complaint

Just the same as mine, nice! Make sure you test if it's stable, as my 1st HD6950 couldn't actually reach 900 core, if I clock it higher than 880, games would crash, and even 3dmark won't run. Make sure you try to run a couple of games or run Furmark to test it... :)

I'm sorry I was busy today. Yet another example of mis-guided forum help. Next time try calling the product manufacturer.
