I was taking apart an old old Foxcon Computer I picked up from work and look at the stock coolers TIM and look at the CPU! For GOD only know how many years this computer was working on a HSF that was NOT properly secured into place! WOW! Amazing! The system still works 100% too!
Try this now days with the mini nuclear reactors we have now days and it wouldn't last 5 min after boot!

PS: I have used the fan as an exhaust fan for my FX8300.

Good question I never checked lol I did however hook it up and started it I played with it and it appears the old owner forget to format the HDD it's a foot doctors computer so I imagine it was used and abused back in the day and it was a piece of crap so he just got a new one and left this one in his old office like a piece of trash.
The case is so cute I am going to make it a super sleeper gaming setup!

It's not like anything magically explodes when they reach their Tjunction...they just throttle and eventually shut down if it's severe enough.

My recently decommissioned Xeon 1230v2 rig has been in daily continuous office service for 6 years. Only when I took it apart did I see that 2/3 of the heatspreader did not make contact with the shitty Intel cooler because somewhere along the line I had neglected to fully seat all 4 cooler pushpins. No problems whatsoever, CPU still works great.

I do not trust anyone lol.

Did those coolers even come with pre-applied stripes of paste like that?
I thought only later versions did when supplied with new CPUs.
Every old Intel cooler I have removed had grey goop smeared all over them and the surrounds.

Amazing how processors can survive conditions like this. There must have been just enough cooling to keep it working reasonably well. It could also explain why the performance was crap.

I remember an old Compaq Pentium 2 that a friend gave me back in the day. CPU ran hot as hell, so much so that you could feel the heat coming off it like a radiator and warm your hands on it, but it was stable and still ran at normal speed. Turns out that the cooler was on crookedly, so that it only made contact at one corner, with the other end lifted up by about 3mm. I put new TIM, set it straight and all that heat went away.

So, tell us, what model is the computer, which CPU is fitted and how much RAM?
