One new part. What do you guys think?

I recently graduated, therefore I have a good bit of money. I usually do one big upgrade every year towards then end of summer and a small one somewhere in between there. Well, this is a good a time as any for that small upgrade. I was thinking of either getting a Phenom X4 9850 or a new video card. What do you guys think? I'm not really sure what video card to consider because I don't really know what's worth it at the moment and what would be bottlenecked by my other hardware. Thanks.

Oh man. I'd say you are a perfect candidate for a new GTX280 next month. You add a Phenom at 3ghz with that, and it will rock! :rockout:

I was thinking of waiting until the new cards are released. Moving to Intel isn't really an option because I don't want to have to buy a new motherboard and CPU right now. At least a Phenom will work with my current board eh?

Yeah, I'd go with the 9850. You aren't going to benefit too much from upgrading your video card with the current options available right now.

I was thinking of getting a 9800 GTX for now and waiting a bit longer on the CPU. What do you think, go ahead and get the 9850 or wait to see if the new hyped cards are really worth it? I don't wanna wait and drop $500 on a new card and it not be worth it, ya know?

The new cards will deffinitely be worth it. With gaming the 8800GTS 640mb still kicks some butt.

Yeah it does lol, the only thing I haven't been able to run on completely max so far is Crysis DX10, but that's not really surprising.

Well if you pick up the 9850 now, by the time the new cards drop, you should have a good OC on the CPU and that will help keep your system performing at the max.

IMHO, a second GTS would probably be your best shot and hold you over even longer with your rig.

Yeah, very little difference in each. But now that I think about it, a 9850 and another pair of the XMS2's would be well worth it.

Hm, hadn't really thought of RAM. Don't really know if I would be able to use 4 GB though, this Vista isn't really playing out too well.
