Not sure what has happen, but i left my computer on last night, this morning my electricity went out for about an hour, so my computer shut off. I turn it back on, got some message about some bios, i just ignored it, then it ask me do i want to go to safe mode or to normal, i click normal . Get back to my desktop, all is well was about to play defiance like i do everyday, but decided to check fraps, " cpu affinity " and it only shows cpu 0 and cpu 1.

:wtf: my question, what in the world happen to my other 2 cpu's?
using a q6600 btw.

Based on what you said I can think of 2 things automatically of the top of my head:

1: It's a glitch and just requires a reboot (Though im guessing you already did this)
2: The power surge/cut off cause the bios to trip some of the cores off. Had a Phenom II X6 that would shut off 2 cores randomly during power failures among other things sometimes.

Go into the bios of your board and under CPU config you should be able to find a spot allowing you to see enabled cores or what not depending on what board brand you have.

Alright i will try that. Thanks. Might have a hard time getting into my bios though considering a fire happen on the motherboard about 2 years ago lol and blew something out which prevents me to go to the bio section, but i will try. I haven't got around to upgrade yet haha.

check your bios setting. i agree with ghostryder. this has happened to some of the my old intel boards to back in the 775 days. if everything looks fine set the bios to its defaults then re config everything back to were you had it. that should do the trick. if not go to the mobo manufacturing place and look for a bios update if everything else fails. only do this if you 100% out of luck with your bios. i had a i5 2400 encounter a surge and killed the on chip gpu even thoy it was disabled. a week later the cpu just whent to toast. had to rma it.

good luck

I had to do a double take...I am surprised if your motherboard is that damaged it works as well as it does for that long! Got a real winner with quality if it can take that abuse and keep on running!

actually the problem isn't gone. It shows 4 cpu's now, but when i run winamp or play defiance, there's cracking noises and the game performance is crap like 30fps, and when i start to recorded it drops down to 1-2fps with more noise. please don't tell me i have to buy a new mb and cpu ?

well yea it caught fire because i drop some water on it by mistake and it blew out something dealing with the bios. lol . its a cheap HP MB came with the computer when i bought it. custom built. i plan to upgrade everything but not atm

Well it maybe giving out finally...If your getting all 4 CPU's back seems that is working but if your getting a crackling (Is it coming from machine or from speakers?)something is wrong.

Alright everything is back to normal. No more sound cracking , or performance issues. I open up my computer, removed stuff and put it back, and somehow manage to get to my bios. I believe it was cause by the video option set to PCI instead of PCI-x16. :) back to defiance.......................... thanks for all the help though :)
