That means alot more than you think. It means its using one of the lower quality panel technologies that not only has bad color reproduction, color shifting on side angles, and lastly tends to be cheap. This might not be such a bad deal if it wasnt for the fact I found an awesome deal...

http://store.benq.us/benq-us/product.aspx?sku=3269055&culture=en-US

When you check out put coupon code "thankyou10" for another 10% off for a grand total of $450 for a MUCH better screen.

that's interesting - but, unless I'm mistaken, I thought certain screen coatings (like anti-glare) could end up reducing the viewing angle quite a bit as well?

TBH, I'm not too worried about wide viewing angles, as I'm positioned 0* and 2.0'-2.5' in front of my current screen . . . I don't have any room to move much to the side, either, too much crap on my desk

although, that Benq looks nice, I'm a bit concerened with it's response time (which is actually rated worse than this 19" I'm currently using) . . . a lot of the games I tend to play are very dark, and ghosting can be an issue

thats nice. specs look good, nice reviews, priced competitively

that is something to be concerned with - I wouldn't be happy having to mod the stand right out of the box to make it stable . . .

perhaps I'll just go in BB to see if they have any on display, check out the stand . . .

The response time is 6ms, those other ratings are specific colors. It also has a specific overdrive that actually works better than my S-PVA 6ms 24inch. The other linked ones are also TN film ones. Personally I cant stand glossy for desktop monitors.

I strongly recommend the benq though. IT IS VERY HARD FIND A GOOD S-PVA MONITOR LIKE THIS AT THE SAME PRICE AS THOSE LOW QUALITY TNs.

yeah that might be a good idea. also i think the one i am talking about was the 22in model, come to think of it. but the 24in stand is similar. i was shopping at Best Buy when looking into the monitor myself and gave the 22in a push this way and that. lots of wobble. couldn't say about the 24in, 'tho

i did find a video review of the 24, however:

http://revver.com/video/1046821/samsung-t240-24-lcd-widescreen-monitor/

although he doesn't try to make it wobble

it seems a good monitor for a TN panel. maybe not for the professional graphic designer or photoshop pro, but for the rest of us it wouldn't seem bad at all

The reason people get TN monitors are because they are cheap. This is not the case right now, so im having a hard time understanding why you would consider those other monitors. You would be getting a 6bit monitor instead of the better 8bit. Your missing almost a million colors...

My samsung 2443bw 5ms monitor rocks, I've actually seen reviews where people have sent back the 240t to get this one. I may be wrong, but I do use it for gaming, tv watching ect. and it really works great!

but its not the same price its $100 more. in some cases more then $100 more

it might be worth it to some, not worth it to others

however i believe you posted a coupon code for 10% off. maybe no one has taken note?

thankyou10

so now its $50 more but with shipping comes out to $70 more then the original monitor posted by TS. is it worth $70 more? yeah, most likely.

i found a review for it:

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/benq_fp241vw/

so its worth $70 more i'd say. as something to use and an investment if its ever to be resold. i like it

however....if TS is going to be "cheap" this is probably as good as the samsung he is looking at. although it doesn't have the tech specs so far as contrast ratio, meh. who cares everything else is the same:

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&oc=E248WFP

now that is just a big, CHEAP monitor. with free shipping its $350 delivered to your door. the benq after tax is about $530 delivered, give or take. so around $180 more

i think if you want a nice monitor get the benq as the price over the other cheapo's justify it. but if choosing one of the cheapo's (samsung T240) or just being thrifty or on a budget, the Dell is the best choice

i have the 22in version. it takes some adjustment but if you know what you're doing its quick and easy to get a good picture. and i just use it for movies and games and internet browsing, mostly. no professional quality color reproduction needed. its not for the picky or too particular. and it sure isn't fancy or feature laden

yeah you get what you pay for in that regard. and you certainly wouldn't want to put it next to a smaller higher quality monitor as your primary in a dual monitor set up. because you'd be looking at the smaller one thinking "wtf that looks better then my 24in!"

but i've managed to do ok with the 22in version. made some changes to the video image settings in the nvidia control panel, increased the digital vibrance some, and it works out fine for general use

its my first "big" monitor and i picked it up on sale for $229 some time ago. 3 year warranty so thats nice

when i get another monitor to replace the CRT i use as a second it will most likely be a better quality 22in. and i'll move this one over to the secondary slot. but until then i'm pretty satisfied

EDIT: oh, and since we are discussing lcd's does anyone have a recommendation as to what is the BEST way to keep a TFT panel clean? a product of some sort, maybe? i've been using water. i guess its ok but idk?

most stores have cheap cleaning kits, they have a brush, cloth, and spray bottle. Brush is good for getting loose dust off, with 0% chance of scratching.

Hey imperial - i was looking at the same monitor back when was looking for one. I opted out because of two reasons - it was expensive back then for what it was, and it looks TOO nice. Imagine it on your desk - would it put everything else in your room to shame?

SO i got the one i currently have - a nice simple monitor that does the job - I haven't looked back since.

funny, but i understand the "looks too nice" thing. i don't care for all the "piano finish" bezels and shiny fancy stands some monitors have. i mean why and what for?

if i'm paying a lot of money give me function first, and the right style will follow. but the style of the stand / bezel really isn't the main issue. its the shiny coatings and the size of the bezel that is the issue. for me at least

i mean its an lcd. i would think the more obvious the screen is and the less obvious the rest is, the better. but the screen on the samsung is encased in this big shiny shell that smudges easily and in person upon close inspection looks kinda cheap. and worse yet its a TN panel. so when its off its going to look funny. like a blackboard surrounded by a big black shiny plastic shell

unless it has some of that "film" over it or w/e they are doing now? i don't like that, either. thats why i like my monitor. the bezel is thin, hard, textured black plastic. the stand is utilitarian, and on my black computer desk you can't even notice it. and TN panel or not i've got no glare whatsoever. but the best thing imo is the bezel. when i look at my monitor whether its for a movie or work or browsing the internet, all i see is screen. not some big piece of "piano finish" furniture looking back at me

so thats how i'm picky about monitors, i guess. the computer kind

I completely understand what you're saying SXT, in regards to LCD displays . . .

but, IDK, I'm one that prefers to be able to see a monitor in person, and compare it to others before deciding - much like audio equipment, white paper specs aren't indicitive of the actual peripheral quality of the unit.

damn . . . I wish CompUSA was still open here, they always had a great selection of mid to high-end stuff to look at

I wish they where for ya man... I am completely babied because of the fact that Compusa is still around here... I went Thursday for the Logitech Z5500's because of the price... The TOC 24 was on my thought also. I just never had enough cash for it at the time.. Hoping to get my 780i board back from Newegg and sell it as fast as I can..

The TOC is one of the best around. I was also looking at This Acer 24"... Two HDMI and pure 1080p... Not bad for the price I must say.

I used to go for cheap too thinking there wasnt any diff, but after a while of researching and seeing it with my own eyes, i would never go back to a TN. Worth it.

Normally I am a pretty value minded guy (polite way to say I am REALLY cheap) but I agree with Shogo and love my LG Flatron with the BN panel (definitely worth the premium price).

I agree as well that cheap usually doesn't cut it . . . but then again, there are the few rare gems out there, too

I still haven't fully decided yet - but I can say, though, that from yesterday, looking at the T240 side by side with other monitors, and being able to dick around with the color/gamma/contrast settings - it actually appeared of better quality than compared to almost all other's on display. The color tone was pretty spot on, and I saw no bleeding at all (like some 6b displays are notorious for) - actually I was quite impressed by the display quality . . .

but, I'll take a walk in at a few home entertainment stores around here, CC as well - to compare to other monitors first . . .

I'll give up the 8b for a 6b with no color bleeding and faster response time hands down, the response time matters more to me for gaming than 8b vs 6b does.
