Don't feel like paying the $11 / month to rent a Arris TM1602 modem from OptimumOnline ...

The replacement will be feeding a GT- AC5300 Asus Router w/ 8 LAN Ports, (2) 5.0 Ghz 4 x 4 and (1) 2.4 Ghz 4 x 4

I went searching for compatability lists and all I could find were blog sites and referral sites. Most of what I found listed models that you can't even buy new now.

Sticking w/ 200 Mbps now as we not even needing that but may want to go 400 in future. Among those seen online as "compatible" :

ARRIS TM804G 8×4 343 Mbps (8 x 4 seems light) ..... Not current model
ARRIS TM822G 8×4 343 Mbps (8 x 4 seems light) .... Not current model
ARRIS TM1602A 24×8 960 Mbps (Puma 6 chipset) ....... defective
Netgear CM600 24×8 960 Mbps (24 x8)......................... $97

BTW, OO doesn't do DOCSIS 3.1 Any suggestions based upon confirmed OO usage ?

Honestly looks like you already know to stay away from puma 6 (which is getting harder to get anyway) I dont currently use a modem at home, but at the satellite offices I had ALOT of luck with the arris surfboards. I generally stuck specifically with ones that were "just modems" I could put in bridge mode and NOT ones that included wifi etc etc.

worked out fine for the satellite offices.

something like this.

oh sorry misread that. Didnt realize they DONT do 3.1 my mistake.

I've used https://www.amazon.com/ARRIS-SURFboard-SB6141-DOCSIS-Cable/dp/B00AJHDZSI as well which are 3.0.

Generally I find "compatability" complete BS. Even in the business environment I just call with the MAC. In residential iv generally had no issues dropping DOCSIS equipment in. Especially since 3.1 is backwards compatible with 3.0.

That buy your own section is a bit of a joke. It only lists the same 3 models that you would rent from them anyway. Comcast for all its faults at least used to provide a pretty beefy list of compatible modems.

edit: if you do a google search for optimum online supported modems, there are a few sights that list quite a few more options. YMMV

I grabbed an Arris TM822G off ebay. You have to call Optimum tech support to get it working, can take 30 minutes. They now charge $10 a month to "rent" their modems since we use the exact same TM822G in our office...but hey they are not a monopoly because you can always get frontier or if you want something faster and more reliable then frontier maybe carrier pigeons?
