Why not try a heatgun? I've done it a couple times on XBOX360's w/ Red Ring of Death and so far 3/3. That was using 600 F for 5min in a circle pattern, you don't want to concentrate the heat in one spot, on each side.
This is what I did to ressurrect a 4870 just last week. Thanks for the tip, by the way
With a heatgun you can just avoid the caps and other stuff more liable to melt/break.
