The way I see it, your inability to overclock the card any further is down to one of two reasons, the mosy likely is that you have hit the maximum speeds on the voltage the card is giving the core and/or memory, if that is the case without doing a hard Voltmod to the card there is not much you can do. I do not think it is the heat as 70C for these cards is not huge but It would not be a bad idead to re-apply some decent thermal paste as even if it does not improve overclocking it should lower temps a little.

The other, less likely reason is that your PSU has reached it's max, if I remember rightly it is recommended that you have a minimum 400W PSU for the card, even though the card can only draw a maximum of 75W from the motherboard (no PCI-E 6 pin connexion), I only say this because you have quite a big overclock on your CPU and those muvvaa's are quite power hungry in any case. I doubt it is that but there is an easy way to find out and that is put your CPU back to stock speeds for a moment, reboot your PC and try overclocking the card again, if you cannot go beyond your current settings then it's not the PSU as by reducing your CPU to stock will free up some wattage.

came across this 512mb 8600gt $120
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814141059

do they really perform in games

In DX9 games? yes they more or less can match a 7600GT especially when overclocked, these can be overclocking monsters especially a 8600GT with 512mb....thats a good buy! But of course, a 7600GT cannot play DX 10 games! You have to bare in mind these are lower mid ranged cards so you should not expect too much from them but OK nonetheless.

i've a little doubt here...is 7600GT better than the 8600GT? or vis versa? or equally good? cuz when i got the 8600GT, a XFX 7600GT cost the same...so what's the difference 'cept than 8600 is newer than the 7600.

The 8600GT is a bit more powerful in games than the 7600GT. However it performs far better in synthetic benchmarks over more powerful DX9.0c card. HOwever do not let this fool you. In my opinion, the real successor of the 7600GT is the 8600GTS. The 8600GT just has a bit more power and added DX10 fuctionality.
