Overclocking the RD580 (Xpress 3200)

I have read that they are stable beyond 1500 MHz (300 HT), so you don't have to worry about changing the multiplier from 5X to 3X. I'm wondering if running mine at 1500 will yield any Crossfire performance.
Anyone tested this yet with Crossfire (or single card for that matter) on the RD580 or RD480? I have the RD580 Xpress 3200

Some can yield 1500 HT-Link speeds. My board will boot with upwards of 288x5 (1440), I didnt fine tune it to try 300x5 as my ram started faulting out (that and running extremely hot, I need active cooling on it when its that high) and I went to a x4 muliplier. Currently I'm orthos 6 hours stable at 322x4 (1288mhz) then I turned it off, my system will never go through that much stressing in normal use..... I've had it post with 355x4, but anything above 322 and I usually fail at stress test about 4-30mins in...Seems to be the processors limit for me . But I cannot complain about a 62% OC

Man I can't get mine to boot if it's set to anything above 600 MHz with my CPU at 300*9....any ideas? What voltage are you running?

There are no performance benefits to running your HT above 1000 at this point. ON my old ECS KA3 MVP, there was zero performance difference between 1200 and 960.

I see improvements in PI scores w/ faster HT...so I guess it was just your board.

On subject...What have you increased the HT voltage to 1.4? The problem is I dont have an ABIT, I'm on an ASUS w/ AMI bios, so I'm not sure what your bio settings are. But Currently I'm at 800mhz (so a 4 muliplier) and running 333 FSB (1332 HT link)

Im my bios settings I have a Chip Set settings, where I put the rd580 @ optimal drive strenght, optimal for HT receiver, and HT PLL Control goes to Highspeed. Without those settings changed I couldnot get past 1100'ish.

Trying looking up someone that has overclocked on that board though, its just a matter of bios settings imo.

Yes, but were you running Crossfire on that board? That's why I bet it will yield better performance.
My voltage settings on the motherboard are NB1.2V and NB1.8V.....that's about it other than the LDT frequency.

HTT controller spans from CPU->Chipset.

Having a chipset that does 3zillion ghz ht is completely irrelevant when the CPU is the bottleneck. (In such because the controller is on the CPU)

And there shouldn't be any noticable performance different between HTT speed.. The bandwidth isn't even close to being touched.

I doubt HT is a bottleneck in a dual 8x setup. A Dual 16x could get close @ 32GB/s, but I doubt memory and CPU could handle that much throughput.

What were the improvements? I'm willing to bet it's within run to run tolerances. As Dippy said, raising your HTT at this point won't improve performance, because the HTT is not the bottleneck. Perhaps it will make a difference once we get quad cores, or if you have a SMP machine, but no current cpu can take advantage of the stock HTT bandwidth as it is, let alone an overclocked HTT.

All you're doing is putting unnecessary stress on your components.
