Oh i can relie to the nostalgi. I will never sell my beloved x58 system. After latest upgrade it has all i need from a pc. 6 core cpu at 4.25 ghz, good gpu power for 1080P gamming (gtx 970 sli), sata 3, usb 3.0, 12 gb ddr3 ram, alot of ssd's and if all goes well very soon a fast m.2 ssd boot/os drive (samsung 950 pro 256 gb and a m.2 pcie adaptor).

What more can i ask for?

I grabbed a P6X58D-E on eBay and slapped a X5670 in it. Easy to get to 4.4Ghz Prime stable, but I've been warned not to exceed 1.35v, so I put the breaks on.

For the money, nothing better as far as I can tell. :toast:

That warning about 1.35v is correct an is intels max reccomended operation voltage for long time use. My i7 980x does 4.25 ghz at 1.35v with intel burn test at 70 c on hottest core.

Its wierd to think about that the x58 platform is 9 years old now. Released in november 2008. And yet it runs the latest games just fine when overclock to 4ghz+.

The lastest game i tryed if bf1 and my old system maxes it out in 1080p

Well it still can hold its own let me tell you. Got a 1060 on sale in there and even rigged it to handle an nvme drive as well with 1600 mb/s reads! Anyhow the sound card dropping out has always been a nuisance but doesn't happen that often. Think I have to bump up ioh or some other voltage somewhere. Or just ease up the fsb. What do you guys recommend?

"Uncore is a frequency that the CPU handles everything from the north bridge to the south bridge. Uncore must be at least 2x as great as the memory frequency."
Actually, "Uncore" in Nehalem based CPU's is both IMC and L3 cache clock speed.
That's why Bloomfield has minimum 2:1 ratio for Uncore / DRAM (Uncore = IMC).
32nm CPU's (and all CPU's on LGA 1156), have a lower minimum ratio of 3:2 (if I remember correctly).

I think HWInfo is mixing up my 3VSB and 3.3V Rails and displaying it improperly because if you look at the voltages 3VSB is at 3.23v and the 3.3V is at 2.98v. I ran HWinfo on another system and saw something similar and remember seeing a message window asking to make corrections to the display names if necessary so it could have it wrong. Only way to know for sure would be to test with a volt meter. Fwiw Evga's own Precision app is also showing 2.98v but it makes me wonder.
