Nice guide man. But I'd like to point you that while not very good for memory testing, folding@home -bigadv (and to a certain point regular -smp) folding heat my i7 2-3 degree C (in real temp 3.4) less than intel burn test. And my experience have shown me that even after passing 20 passes of intel burn test, folding will make it crash after a day or two. I've lost three 70000 wu this way...:banghead: If it can fold, it's stable!

I wanted to add a note here based on my experiences.

I just burned up an Intel 980x, it was set to 1.45v and clocked to 4.5ghz, running 24x7 @ 100% for about 6 months. It held around 85-90c constantly, now it fails constantly, nothing else was really pushed up for this clock speed. So warning, it was either temps or cpu voltage.

Could it be that the 32nm is less good with temps and or voltage?

Voltage would be my guess, that's alot of volts to be pushing through a 32nm cpu. It will take it for awhile but in the end it will burn it out.

Edit: Intel says the stock volts are 0.8V-1.375V anything over that and it will burn it up eventually. I guess you are lucky it lasted the 6 months you had it running. I never like to run my cpu's @ that high of a temp for a long period of time.

Indeed I am thinking it was the core voltage as well, which is why I posted about it. I have not burned up a chip overclocking before I think these 32nm chips are pretty sensitive. It was in a Asus P6X58D Premium, so not a cheap board with bad VRs.

is that still on the mugen 2? how close have you gotten to 5GHZ? my 950 on the same board and same cooler is doing ok at 4.4, but I feel like I missing something that would allow me to go higher.

Hi,

Dusted off the cob webs on my X58 Evga Classified E759 and trying to tune it for best performance at 3.8ghz (19x200) 1.33cpu v , +100 vtt volts 1600mhz ram. Its always been mostly stable except at these high fsb speeds sometimes I lose my sound card and I have to re-enable the device. Was wondering what voltage bump would help with that from not happening? IOH?

PS: Know its an old thread but have a lot of nostalgic feelings about this board so still using it.

Thanks

Sound card at the whim of the PCI bus or separately linked the Uncore ratio?

I have both an Evga and Asus x58 board. The Evga is easiest to understand the Uncore (at least how it plays with RAM speed). The ASUS not so much.

I have that issue sometimes also. I run my core at 1.325V.

Only in the computer business can you get nostalgia from something that isn't even a decade old lol...
