Yeah ideally you want to keep them under 45c. You could use a program like Open Hardwre Monitor to check what temp and ma temp your getting.

Just in case you have had a few crashes which might be why your asking you better run a chk dsk on the hdd's just in case.

stupid vent issue, had it loose during test bench setting up and it got forgotten, it was on top of a foam block that psu came in, bad owner bad! lol
it was hot.. I now had it exposed to low amount of air and nothing against bottum, just a minor support and it went from ouch hot to cold...
thanks for the info on if this could cause sys crash.. I was having odd unrelated to anything crashes

I can't recall where I saw it right now, but there was some in-depth testing done, and the conclusion they came up with was HDD that operated "too cool", usually under 25C had just as high a failure rate as HDD operating to hot. Why that is, I don't recall. Perhaps I can locate one of the articles I read it in.

well, makes sense.. soon as practical I hope to switch to either hybrid hd or ssd... maybe you have some recommendations there? I have LOTS of space in my ongoing modded desk/case...
Is it noticably faster to go ssd, then traditional vs hybrid?

I dont see where setting it on foam insulation would get it hot enough to cause an error. Maybe in the sun

the foam was closed cell and it did get very hot... now its very cool... amazing what a little cool are circulating will do
ok, just touched it, its slightly warm underneath.. cold on top and not at all hot ..

it may relate to oc, hardware, bios, apps, driver or setting

you mean oc my system...?
I am referingnot to the set up instability when oc, but rather the system gets weird in a game and the game or windows drops type instability, I know it could be anything.. but cancelling the little foxes keeps the focus on the big issues... who needs crap with a hd?
Thoughts on hybred vs ssd> ?

yeah maybe you missed something when you oc it
you could reset your bios too and check if the instability return

ssd for os and apps and hdd for data
