P4 Dead... again

Well guys, its been a while since the last time i posted but i need some help now.

My Bedroom pc (478 P4, 2.4ghz, 2GB ram, Asrock P4mv800 mobo, 6600gt, XP windows) is dead.

I was watching some youtube when suddenly it hanged. Rebooted and it gets to the xp logo with the loading bar and then the loading bar hangs. Reboot again to enter the bios to see if something was wrong and it turns out i cant even go into the bios. Any ideas?

Check the fan is spinning on that 6600GT....may of just died so the heat is cutting out your card when it loads up even simple things like the BIOS.

EDIT: I had my old p4 doing that. that even can't get past the BIOS, dead.

lots of *maybe* problems there.
it could be any hardware failing.
try to change any hardware that you think has to do with it dying and do a trial and error.(move RAM to different slots, change RAM, change/remove Vcard, change PSU, etc)

could've been the mobo or the processor just fail.
If you have a debug card, it's easier to tell which hardware is fail.
if not, try this:
- only connecting hardware necessary to boot up the pc i.e processor, mobo (I believe your mobo has onboard vga, 1 stick of ram, psu (and make sure it is the good one).
- do a clear cmos
- boot the pc.

if nothing happens and your screen go blank without no beep errors, try removing your ram and see it your mobo make a beeping error sound. It it doesn't making any sound, I presume either your processor or mobo is dead.Can't really tell for sure which one, unless you have a hardware to check it like debug card.

Hmmm, time for the P4 to RIP? I think its the mobo, since that there is no beep code. I may be wrong though. Look around to see whether there is anything burnt/ broken, take everything apart and fix it again, the usual stuff.

When something hangs, it is usually a thermal shutdown. That or it could be ram, but I doubt it just "died" right there.

run CHKDSK to make sure your HDD is not on the fritz. also, do you have a lot of dust accumulating inside the chassis?

If there's no beep, I doubt it's the RAM, because the system still DOES function on a low level without the RAM, and will give the widely known one long "GIVE ME RAM" beep.

I've had a PC with a bad video card that would cause the system to hang in Windows. If you have a spare video card, try this.

My next guess is the motherboard.

IMO, it's time to upgrade that P4 anyway, heh. I was just on a P4 2.8 HT (fixing a pc for someone) and it was god awful slow compared to even my first dual core rig, the 5200+.

Download spinrite 6- plug it in and boot from the disk once you burn the iso to it. Itll ask u to push the space bar twice and then press 4 for system maintenance. Itll look for surface defects in your hardrive or bad sectors is what there called and thats would could be hanging your system

Then Download Memtest+ 4.0 or such, burn the iso to a disk and boot of that so it can run full fledged passes of hardcore stress down your ram to check for any defects.

Its basic diagnostics and thats probably the problem. But Hard-drive sounds more like whats causing your problem.

Also when EVGA Made there 6600-6800 cards almost 100% of them come up with popped Capacitors and create stupid artifact and issue's, every single card 6600-6800 after a year or 2 have blown caps on em and sum times its a easy fix to find if someone is complaining about something and usually its the problem. But it could also be a randomly flakey motherboard which ive seen to, and it just doesn't want to act right. Its a old system so you could come up with many possible scenario's in your head so..
