P4 Prescott 3.4ghz and realtemp

realtemp says that it will work with all Intel single core,dual core, etc.....

realtemp says The processor detected is not supported. it says I have a genuine intel(r)pentium(r) 4 cpu 3.4 ghz

Will this program work for this or does anyone have another recommendation?

I even tried turning hyperthreading off to see if it would work to no avail.

While the first sentence may be misleading, the part i highlighted is not. it only works on core series CPU's - and a p4 is not core

I would much appreciate any thoughts on this problem

prescott p4 3.4 ghz
2 gb corsair 6400 ram
nvidia 6600GT
2 x 120 gb hdd
SB Audigy Platinum ZS

I'm having a Temperature problem then system shuts down

The bios cpu temp warning is set to 80 C / 176 F. Then shuts down. explains the shut down.

The bios shows the cpu temp at 74 - 75 c and when shutting down the bios shows 86 c and reports the cpu fan speed at just under 4500 rpm's sounds like a jet engine...Computer use is mostly internet.

I opened the case today and checked the cpu fan/heatsink. One of the locking legs had came loose I fixed it. and restarted the computer. The bios reports the
cpu temp as 74 - 75 c still but the cpu fan is 2300 rpm's much quieter at this temp.

I installed Gigabyte's EasyTune5 that came with the Mobo. It reports the cpu temp as 50 - 54 c at idle and up to 70 under load. Which is accurate the bios or the software?

are they getting the readings from the same place?

it appears that the cpu is throttled down showing a constant 2.84ghz and momentarily jumps to 3.4ghz and back down looking at the easytune5 readings.

Could the reading in the bios be false making the cpu fan run harder and causing the cpu to throttle?
I will be installing a corsair H50 cpu water cooler. But that is not an explanation for the really high temps or high rpm's of the cpu fan and the large difference from what the mobo software reports

Since I can't use RealTemp is there another program that can be used?
I know that the prescott p4 3.4ghz is one hot potato but it has never ran so loud or got so hot. I believe that normal operating temp for this CPU is 50 - 70 c underload.

The loose leg likely allowed the CPU to overheat so much that it dried up the thermal paste.

Try completely removing the cooler, clean the old thermal paste, applying new thermal past, and re-installing the cooler.

If you have the money for a corsair H50, get a new CPU instead...
