You know I dont know why more companys dont do something like this more often. Im thinking it would help them alot putting deals on forums because since we live for this stuff, we WILL get it if its enticing enough. Hardforum newegg deals seemed to be somewhat of a success.

I help friends all the time with computer building, but I probably dont have enough thanks or posts do i? :(

Am I right in my presumption that this is only open to the States?

Oh wait, didn't notice this post at first...

Shame international members of TPU miss out, but I guess you can't please everyone.

Nice one anyroad!

Well, the PalitGuy only has control over North America I believe. I think other continents are out of his scope.;)

I have heard Palit goes under a different name in other countries/continents.

More info on this.

I think it is very important everyone understands Palit neither expects or is asking anyone to recommend any of our cards in a way that misrepresents your own personal experience. If you don't have the card that will be in this program, don't go telling people you do.

The REAL purpose of this contest is to answer one question- how influential are coupon codes in forums. There are two ways to go about getting the codes out in a large number of forums, one person making many posts or many people making fewer posts.

The secondary goal of this contest is to reward forum posters for getting the word out. The intent is to improve the brand recognition of Palit in the US. For those of you in Canada, I'm working on getting something like this going with NCIX. I also have another post in here that shows a couple coupon codes there.

Internally this contest has met with a great deal of interest, mostly good but there are some concerns. Our concerns are exactly the same the ones you read here.

Will people start recommending cards as if they owned one when they really don't? Will they abuse forum rules and make people mad at Palit? And so on.

My response has always been that I don't think so. That isn't what we are asking people to do. I also don't think many people would. I mean, a new video card (or two or four) is nice but I just don't believe that the same people who argue with all the passion they can muster about some individual specification of a card and its impact on a single benchmark are going to just turn on their morals to get a free card.

The coupon code is just an incentive to get people to buy a Palit card over some other brand. We believe that once someone owns a Palit card, they will enjoy the experience and recommend us to other people.

I envision this whole program working very similar to the way I post in here. Just make people aware that if they are looking for a card, here's a coupon code that will get it for them a little cheaper. If you like the fact that I spend time in here or have read some of my other posts and like the direction Palit is going, you are certainly qualified to speak to that.

So we'll add one more rule to the mix, don't say things you're not comfortable saying for any reason. Feel free to send as many people as you can back to these forums to see what's going on. This isn't a scam, it's just honest marketing.

I don't have all the answers for sure so at some point people have to think for themselves. I'm relying on everyone who participates in this contest to do that. Palit is being honest and so should you.

And yes, the nine is a blatant reference to LotR. I actually have ten codes but I thought this would be more fun.

Of course we are. That's pretty obvious.

On the up side, at least with this form of advertising some people in the community get something back. It's definitely not a perfect system but I think it's totally a step in the right direction.

If I can prove that this is a good way to get the word out it's something we would include in our upcoming consumer program. The basic idea for now is buy a card, register with us, get assigned a code, get credit toward your next upgrade.

So it's kind of like a trade up program. Instead of using it within the first 90 days, you would use it in the last 90 days (so to speak) of when you own your card. To me that is infinitely more useful than within the first 90 days.

It's also like a loyalty program so that you get a discount when you buy your next card.

This thing will hopefully evolve as Palit learns more and as the community gives us feedback. That's where the idea came from really, I've just put together a couple different ideas from what people have said in forums and found a way to make it work financially.

This is what I'm trying to get at. At the end of the day, Palit is a business that is trying to make money just like every other company. What I would like to do is stop acting like that's not the case. There's nothing wrong with making money and there's nothing wrong with working for a company.

So when I sponsor a LAN party, ya, I want to give something back to the community. I'm part of the community. But there are no free rides. LAN parties, sponsorships and all the other fun stuff I get to do ultimately has to increase sales.

The cold hard truth is that if Palit (or any other company) doesn't make money they cease to exist (become and ex-parrott). So we combine some marketing stuff designed to increase sales with the sponsorship of a LAN or gaming team or case mod or whatever.

I don't see any reason to make it look like we're only being charitable. I don't normally drone on about it because it takes a few paragraphs to explain. Most people don't really care but since the question was raised I thought it best to answer it directly and honestly.

To that end, the consumer program I'm trying to build with the community is a you scratch our back we'll scratch yours kind of thing.

If we have to dish out virtual to substance incentives just to get people to offer 'assistance,' then we have a bigger problem on our hands.

That and it would get easily abused.

Nice idea, just not practical.

I didn't him say anything about Palit_Guy, good or bad. He said it's like cheap advertising, and that's easily recognizable.

He asked one of the tough questions. It's a good point.

I took it as he's dubious about marketing people and their activities and I think he should be. Including the stuff I do.
