Thank you! I feel since W1z created the Patreon, it was never profiled front and center.

I would like to see this remain open as long as possible to keep awareness of it and gain more patrons who want to support TPU.

I agree. It's just a couple of dollars a month to support TPU. The thorough GPU reviews here are worth more to me than that.

You know there are other ways to generate revenue without resorting to Patreon and not running bs ad networks. This site ranks #4700 in the US for all websites...that is a ton of traffic. Monetizing that traffic should be generating A LOT of money. How that money is handled offsite/backend...I have no idea, but maybe that needs to be looked into vs asking for cash on Patreon.

Who is in charge of Digital Sales? Who is selling this highly targeted niche traffic to outside companies. The demographics for this site and the purity of those stats should demand a good amount of money.
TPU's userbase tends to be slightly more technologically literate than the average person. This means copious use of ad-blockers and anonymity tools. The infamous 4chan ran into revenue issues lately for the same reason. And 4chan has a much higher Alexa rank than TPU, both in the US and elsewhere. Back when TPU was ad-only, most were blocked by people here anyway. Some did allow exceptions for TPU, but I suspect they were in the minority.

I get that some users are not a fan of Patreon (was not here for the deleted drama but given TPU's userbase, I suspect it was primarily due to politics and ideology than anything else), but the model is sound. It's very straightforward. The way I see it, it's no different than having a PayPal link. Either way, it's less convoluted than opening a TPU-branded T-shirt and trinket store.

I wanna say that your avatar is cute:love: I do not run adblocker anywhere anymore as I understand ad revenue makes the internet go round, and keeps content free and accessible without pay walls. Some sites I do not visit anymore due to the ads. Anand and Tom's are examples. I find the ads intrusive and annoying (I find concentrating on the material hard enough with my issues, let alon with the banners). I prefer this approach instead of blockign teh ads and reading the content anyway. But with TPU i get most, if not all my hardware and tech news here so it's ok. Also The ads here on TPU are mostly PC hardware related and unintrusive. actually i have found them useful haha, i think there was an ad here for this motherboard and that's how i found out about it. I am interested in buying it too.

I would also love a TPU-branded store for gadgets and t shirts and other stuff. TPU plushies too please^^ (i'm serious @W1zzard hehe) I love cute things to place in my collection. I already buy from partner stores on my favourite you tube channels so I would for TPU here too. Anyway i am going to set up Patreon soon.:)

Thanks for all the hardwork that goes into maintaining the site and putting out the top notch content, reviews and such. Much appreciated :lovetpu:

People also forget that we don't flood the site with ads either. Sure ads bring money but when all you have is some banner ads thats a far cry from popups banners and well advertisments frigging everywhere. lol.

Patreon would be a better alternative to the sponsored ads but lets face it. Community is fickle, traditional ads only go so far. So in the end its up to the big boss. I have no idea how things balance out since thats about my station. But suffice to say looking at typical ad models and other sites. Diversifying a bit is probably a good thing.

Theres also the fact that these ad sponsors are everywhere like it or not should TPU leave that money on the table? Whos to say. As for patreon more supporters would be nice.

i would prefer to have another option to support instead of patreon like donation right here on site, without any badge...

i don't like to have linked a card to PayPal all the time....only when i make a payment ; i feel more secure this way as today you never know who gain access to your data....

At least as an option I would much more prefer it. A onetime support or a years support in a single transaction is better than the connection to Patreon I guess.

If I could do like a single payment of $25 to get the Supporter badge permanently, I'd do something like that. I have commitment issues. :D

I can't believe we only have 8. I'm going to join someday, but 8 really does seem surprisingly low for such a tight community.

No, it doesn't.

I'm going to risk asking, but I'm only looking for a short, concise and objective answer without names or politics...

What is causing the resistance to Patreon support here on TPU? Is it Patreon itself?

yeah I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of supporting patreon. if i do donate i prob will just donate directly when that becomes available.

well its not just that for me... TPU has some of the best technical features of any forum I have ever used. like when i double post it auto merges the posts and saves me time, etc.

overclock.net is still a mess... used to love OCN but its just a mess these days... a real shame... technically speaking TPU is much cleaner and better.

To each their own. So far as I see it, there is currently one way to personally ad value to my support of this site and its thru patreon. Yes they may have made some bad decisions, but shy of actually cutting a cheque and mailing it to W1z it's going to have to be this way. At least for now.
I don't like the major banks taking my money when I pass funds either but that's just how things are. I just don't see patreons practices affect my desire so much as to not give back to the place that taught me so much.

umm paypal gift costs no fees... no bank fees, no fees from paypal... you just choose send as a gift option.

so wiz would actually get full donation of money, no one taking a slice of the pie at all like patreon does. and then one wiz confirms your donation amount he could put supporter badge on your profile, or scale it to w.e amount you donated. etc.

Last time I looked which was only a few days ago, I could only send a gift in my country (up to a certain amount) without incurring a fee, otherwise it comes under the banner of goods and services and does incur a fee.
If I wanted to use Paypal and send Money to TPU I would be liable for a fee.

That seems to be the crux of it.

W1z believes Patreon is suitable for raising funds for TPU, should that not be enough for members to look beyond their quarrels with Patreon and support this community?

I mean.. no.. not at all.. If someone doesn't support something than some guy on the internet saying to use it shouldn't convince them to use it.
