Microsoft liked Java so they created J++ that runs on JVM. Sun sued and won. Microsoft then created the .NET framework (mimicking JVM), ported Visual Basic to it, and created J# (Java on .NET) and C# (C++ on .NET). J# was axed a few years later because no one used it (because Java sucks). C# catapulted past Visual Basic in popularity, remains in the top 5 today.

Singularity is a .NET-based operating system experiment that Microsoft discontinued years ago. It semi lives on as the Universal Windows Platform.

Sun and Oracle had fantasies of Java "network computers" everywhere

There are three things that I hate in my job; users, printers and java.
