PC crashes, any ideas?

I have the hardware in my profile. I often get sound-looping crashes. Sometimes I can go a few days without any crashes, and sometimes it's a few times a day, I guess it depends what I run. So I took out my Auzentech sound card, believing it might be the culprit, but onboard sound does the same.

I checked my RAM and it checks out. I don't have any heat problems, and I recently reinstalled windows to see if software might be responsible. The same problem occurs.

So I am at a bit of a loss... Can a faulty motherboard cause such a thing?

Deus Ex Human Revolution crahes the most, and BFBC2 also crashes somewhat frequently.

A blue screen error code would help. They can be researched at Microsoft or Google.

Does it only do this under heavy cpu load or only while gaming? If gaming, disable SLI and see if still occurs. This will tell me if it's the power supply or driver issue.

Sounds like it's not a BSOD but a hardlock/freeze.

Another thing to try, disable nvidia HDMI audio in device manager.

Try clearing the cmos or take the battery out. If it still persists try a bios update. If it still persists try dffrent sound jacks e.g. Optical out(tosslink) etc. try the sound card in another pci slot. If u still have the problem....well......new mobo. Cant think of too much more. Sry.

You are right, it's a hardlock/freeze, and not a BSOD.

It also happens while browsing or even just moving the mouse on the desktop. Of course, I game a lot, so it happens more often when gaming, but that seems to be only related to my use of my computer. Ha, it happened while typing this reply. Just froze and I had to reboot. Of course I can't call it a "looping-sound" lock per se, coz there was no sound being output. That rules out the soundcard, it seems, although I had already done that by taking it out and using the onboard.

Going to implement your suggestion right away. [EDIT: I have _8_ "Nvidia high definition audio" in my device manager... I disable all those?]

I did all that recently when moving to a new install of windows on a brand new SSD. I'll look for a newer version of the BIOS, thanks!

Ahhh that changes things, try out a bios update first. Maybe an issue with Turbo core or CnQ, could probably disable those in bios and see if the problem persists for now.

CnQ and TC both seem to not be working, but I think they are enabled... Hm... Good ideas here. Thanks!

Update drivers to beta 285 deus ex was crashing for me like every 5 min, now i can play it

All out of ideas here as to what this could potentially be, try the driver update and if that doesn't rectify things you might either be overheating even at idle(doubt it) or need more voltage to the cpu.

CnQ was disabled in the BIOS but TC was enabled, so I disabled it now.

Hopefully this fixes it. I did play a couple hours of Deus Ex, no problems whatsoever, so my fingers are crossed. Thanks guys!
