PC Freeze with weird sound from HDD

Hello, My PC froze several times in recent days with a weird noise coming from HDD. It unfroze itself within several seconds, so I didn't care much. However, today morning it didn't even boot, but stuck on boot screen with the weird noise continuously coming from the HDD. After several minutes, it booted to the desktop and I could normally use the PC. It is working fine for more than 2 hours now, but I am worried if my HDD is damaged.

I ran the chkdsk command as soon as it boot up, and here's the result.

Then, I download Hard Disk Sentinel, and Here's what is says...

My Hard Disk is a Seagate Barracuda 7200. 12

listened to your audio it sounds very much like hardware fault from physical damage, looking at chkdsk I believe the data corruption true and due to write error and I also believe hd sentinel, the reason they have differing reports is because its an intermittent fault, for the former the hdd was misbehaving and the latter it was operating normally.

backup your stuff and get new disk while its still spinning and hope you don't pull corrupt data off it. I would strongly recommend you stop using it till then.

don't always rely on software although it says your hardware is ok but there's something that unusual from that, especially hdd and weird symptoms better do backup, since i have old hdd that said everything is ok but in short time it's clicking and dead

I would run chkdsk again only this time using the /r switch (chkdsk /r). Be sure to run it from an elevated (As administrator) command prompt. When it run it with no switches, as you did before, chkdsk does not attempt to fix any errors it finds.

And for sure, backup any data you don't want to lose.

I did see a reference to check disk above which might save some files, but I do want to caution you: any time (and this is definitely one of those times) you think your drive might be failing, copy off your critical data immediately, while the drive is still running, before you attempt any repairs, preferably before you turn it off again; you never know if it will come back on. Run check disk after you've gotten everything you need/can from the drive.

id say it would be due to a bad power supply, bad power cable to the hdd or a bad connection. i had the same thing happen to one of my own seagates (a 320gb 7200.11 vs a 500gb 7200.12 as seen here, but they are pretty much identical) on a testing PSU, eventually the power supply failed and it wasn't able to power up a single drive.

be warned, i probably swear in it. (as i had just purchased the drives, and this was the first time i had powered them up, after testing them on a known good PSU they have been running fine since with no issues).

I've had similar issues before and it was caused by a bad SATA power cable/connector. I'd try reseating the cable or use a different one from your PSU. Unless it's really a head crash, it's possible that it might just be the HDD not getting enough power.

I have about 10 drives in my Plex server and it used to be that over the course of a few days, 1 or 2 drives would randomly go offline. I discovered the root cause to be the 1-in to 2-out SATA power splitters I used. These were the cheap kind and frankly, for something very simple, I never thought these could cause issues.

Switching to a heftier Molex to 4-SATA power splitter solved it for me. Never had one HDD go offline in years.
