I'm looking to replace my current system from 2014 with something more up to date.

BACKGROUND:
I'm into PC gaming, IE, WOW, Overwatch, CS:GO, COD, GTA V

PC I am replacing specs:
CPU: AMD FX-8350
MB: MSI 970A-G46 AMD 9 Series Motherboard
GPU: GTX 960 4GB
PSU: SolidGear 650W
CASE: Cougar Solution Black Steel Gaming ATX Mid Tower
Memory: It's a hodgepodge 24GB
HDD: Samsung EVO 1TB SSD

This will be a ground-up build as I don't want to harvest anything from the current system because it's pretty obsolete.

Monitor I currently have is ASUS VG248QE Gaming Monitor -24" FHD (1920x1080) , 1ms, up to 144Hz

BUDGET: Targeting 700 -1000 USD$

Must Haves: Visuals, and FPS matter to me, I can go with medium setting don't need ultra.

Be Gentle :(

I would suggest waiting for sub 300 next gen gpus from amd and nvidia and also for the cpu market to cool down..... There isn't much you're gonna be able to do with 700 usd right now because almost everything is overpriced. In the meantime try to save up to around 1000 usd as the difference could be north of 40% on the gpu side.

I could possibly swing my budget to 1000$

That's going to help you alot but the bigger problem right now is timing the majority of budget ish pc parts at least in North America are very overpriced if you can you're much better off waiting a couple months for stuff to cool down if not you're gonna overspend on a relatively weak pc. 1660 super which isn't all that great these days are going for North of 300 usd for example.

Yea right now it between processor and GPU shortage + scalping it's a bad time to build.

You could still poke around for things like cases and such, things that are still fun even if they sit 6 months unused.

What's lacking in your current level of performance? Those games look very easy to run I don't imagine your system would be struggling.

Your PSU, Case and SSD can be reused, but you need new equipment for modern gaming.

Do you want to stick with AMD? Do you want new parts or are you ok with the used market? Would like to help you out, just want to have a feel for what you're looking for.

@scrizo What do you mean by "hodgepodge 24GB"? Unless it won't be compatible with your next motherboard, that RAM is very much salvageable along with your casing, PSU & whatever storage drive you that have on you right now. For everything else, I recommend used/second-hand hardware, if you don't mind those. That way, along with re-selling your old hardware, you'd have much more than a $1000 budget to spend & get higher-end used hardware if you can find them.

The PS5 should cost $500 MSRP so I don't know what you really mean by robbery. That should be considered the standard price for what it's worth.

Chrome plays better than IE, IMO.

Bad time to build with new latest-gen parts, but however, second hand last-gen should be pretty good, except for GPUs. Definitely go the Zen route and pick up a cheap Ryzen 5 3600 with a decent 500-class motherboard. Once the dust settles, it's an easy upgrade to 5800X or 5900X for more cores if needed. It's also PCI-E 4.0 ready. New GPUs are a shit show, both price and availability. 6800 is best value for non-RT performance if can be found. Good luck otherwise.

I'll be reply #16... and so far no one has provided even a basic build to this person and the conversation is now seemingly about IE vs Chrome.... o_O

Next it'll be about how his budget isnt good enough as everyone needs a RTX3080, 64GB of DDR4 @ 4600mhz and a 4k HDR monitor, with how the thread trends work in 2020. :shadedshu:

With the OP's current spec, pretty much anything will be an upgrade to his current config of randomness ->

Keep: PSU - SSD - CASE - GPU (for now!)

Buy: CPU - Mobo - RAM.

Ryzen 3600(non-x) + b550 + 16gb of something cheap <- this is what I'd build now due to current pricing in the US or most of Europe.

Upgrade the GPU to a used 1070/80/2060/5700 due to budget.

Now is a good time to buy a cheap custom pre-built then swap out the card to something better when they are back in stock. Also in 1-2 years picking up a used 5900x wouldn't be a bad way to go.

The above link is perfect for the OP and includes a 2060 which would be a giant leap over the GTX960 in use currently.

Oh hell no! Those PCs come in a single dimm config, very slow SSD/HDDs and crap PSU's.

How about we wait for the OP to respond and we can help them find parts that will best fit their needs.

Those are cyberpowers with dual channel 16GB ram with nvme SSDs and off the shelf PSUs... Plus his PSU is 6 years old.

They're getting rid of older stock now so you can really get deals on good SI rigs. Don't buy a dell or anything, but Cyberpower/iBuyPower/Digital Storm etc. It will literally be the exact same stuff we will recommend here, except discounted / with windows installed and a warranty, and pre-assembled.

Looks almost unbeatable for the price if compared to stand-alone components. (who'd have thought we'd be saying that in 2020!?)

Thats not a terrible idea @phanbuey

Although I doubt either motherboard would do well with a 5900X..... I would stick to 8 cores or less on either.

Again, hell no. Walmart's poor excuse for PCs are laughable. We want to helpful to the OP, not make their life more difficult.
