PC shut off while gaming, restarted on its own, no video feed from GPU

So I was playing Hitman and my PC shut off out of nowhere, it immediately restarted but to my surprise there was no video feed (GPU is connected to TV with hdmi cable), so I tried restarting to no avail.

I moved the HDMI cable to the motherboard port and my onboard graphics was the one giving the video feed instead, everything works except for the GPU, I tried moving the GPU to my other PCIe 16x slot but it doesn't work there too, the led on the side of the GPU turns on in both PCIe slots but that turns on even without the PCI cable from the PSU attached, probably drawing power from the motherboard, I tried all the PCI cables from my PSU but the GPU still doesn't give any feedback, I should mention the fans don't spin on startup (I'm not sure they're supposed to since the fans don't spin below 52°C, but I can't remember if they are supposed to spin on startup anyway).

I tried checking the default option in the bios and it's set to start with the discrete graphics, I checked with HWmonitor the PSU voltages and everything seems in order although I'm not sure how reliable this is (http://i.imgur.com/x7DW0ph.jpg), the GPU or the PSU have not given any problems before this happened, it was so sudden I thought there was a power shortage only to notice my clock and AC were still on. Lastly, when I start my PC with everything connected to the GPU the "no video feed" on the tv disappears for a second only to return, if I try to move the hdmi cable to the motherboard slot I get the onboard graphics feed, this might be a false lead though.

I'm honestly at a loss, I have no way of testing parts on other PCs, I already set up everything with Amazon to return the graphics card, but, because the current shorage of GPUs caused by mining, they only offered me a full refund, that is barely enough to cover the cost of a RX4704gb, which I might have to wait a month or two for, any ideas?

It's the vid card.
Your XFX is a very good Seasonic made PSU. I highly doubt it's that. You're not even using half of it's capacity.

no friend or neighbor with a pc that can help you test it ?

Your Stuck between a Rock and a Hard place
my opinion is bite the Bullet and take the Full Refund
I know it hurts and having to Add Cash to your Refund to get A comparable replacement Card (and is Adding insult to injury ).
but at least you will then Have a new Card and not a ex miners Card Returned to Amazon and passed on to you as a Replacment
( YES You Think it wont happen But i Bet it has >>>> Amazon got to get rid of those Returns Somehow ).

if you got a hard-power type reset e.g it shut down like somebody yanked the power
then the psu is bad
there is a slight chance it could be the motherboard but I doubt it

Yeah that's what happened, so I should avoid RMA the card?

PSU or motherboard in my opinion. A broken video card would have typically not caused the system to shutdown.

If you can test the card in another system.

Does the card have some LED status light ? Those can indicate if it gets enough power or not.

So what ? It can't go bad,huh ?

Hear my story connected with "very good" XFX PSUs. Yes, their OEM is Seasonic. That doesn't guarantee the quality of the particular unit that XFX sells you tho. I had a 850W XFX PSU. Bought a used R9 290 trix, which worked fine for 3 weeks, until it didn't. Said to myself, this has got to be the card, I knew the guy was mining on it. So I went through with the RMA and received a new one. Installed, ran fine... for 3 weeks. Same story. RMA'd the card, got a new PSU, and finally no issues.

my guess is that he is making an educated guess as he stated "i highly doubt its your PSU" that the liklihood of a Seasonic PSU dying is fairly slim. he didnt say theres no chance any PSU from seasonic will ever die.

i would personally try swapping out the GPU for another laying around.....and do the same for the PSU if it didnt work.

Using "highly doubt" sounds very educated, that much is clear. We know GPU is dead. But what killed it ? I highly suspect it's the PSU as an educated guess.

Yeah right , we know the GPU is dead , care to elaborate also how did you get to poses paranormal abilities ? Because I have no idea how you came to that conclusion.

If you don't have a clue , don't comment anything , someone is trying to get help.

Unless OP can test the GPU in another system or try another GPU ( or simply try a different PSU altogether ) there is no way to tell for sure what happened.

Using "highly doubt" sounds very educated

look man, im just saying he wasnt claiming that no seasonic PSU could die, thats all. and FWIW, "a guess based on knowledge and experience and therefore likely to be correct." is a educated guess by definition. i wouldnt say i KNOW the GPU is dead, but thats just me
are you people high

I got my old gpu from a friend, it's an R9 270 it's kinda busted up but still somewhat works, I imagine it draws less power but I'm gonna test it first thing tomorrow when I get back home.

Just tested the GPU on another PC, doesn't work

RMA will take a while but it'll give you time to buy new PSU in the meantime. RMA the PSU as well, but frankly I'd sell it as soon as they replace it. XFX ruined my 290s twice, don't wanna see that happen to you again. Evga 550W G2 seems like a nice budget GPU and a lot of my pals are vouching for it.

So I've tested the R9 270 on my pc, it works, I should mention this card had problems in the first place.
Anyway I get video feed, I can use the computer normally but I can't game, after a few seconds of gaming the screen freezes, hitting capsolock doesn't turn the light on the keyboard, the freezes eithe turn the screen black or another color for 10-20 seconds, then shows a frozen image of the last part of the game before the freeze with small black dots all over the screen, I honestly can't tell if this is the gpu or whathever else since my old gpu was acting up even before, though not to this extent before lending it to a friend.

That said this one works, what now?

Old gpu drivers removed? Chipset drivers installed?

Only other thing that can be attempted is replacing the thermal compound, cleaning the gpu and your pc case of dust.
