I've noticed more people are pushing beyond the "recommended max" 120MHz boundry and having no issues and better performance/vid card OC's. I want to know more from those of you that are, and from those that have tried but didn't either get anything out of it or lost stability. I've read too many times that going over 120 is not recommended. But one person I talked to had an SATA HDD and pushed his FSB over 140MHz with no problems (D44ve's last system). This is something people argue about, but I haven't really seen much for results, and haven't had the best of luck getting responses from those whom have pushed the boundries, so enter this thread to hopefully solve my inquiry.

So if you have any results, good or bad from increasing PCI-e speed, please document it here. List everything you can, scores of benches before and after, system specs, driver versions, etc..

I am requesting this since I have researched and read a lot of PCI-e Bus info, and even at that there's still some questions left to be answered. So I'd rather see REAL WORLD results, as those tend to be more viable than heresay. I want to have more accurate information in my Guide (link in sig), and this is one topic I want to get straightened up. So if you want to help me please list all you can, your experiences, your suggestions, recommendations, etc. I believe this is a bigger issue than many give it credit for, and if more people can push beyond 120MHz without consequence and attain better performance, then why not look into it for all of us to reap the rewards of?

I will do some testing on my PC next week when I get back from my trip to Vegas, and hopefully this thread will have plenty of information for me to dig through to get down to the truth of the PCI-e Bus Speed. Thanks for your support! :toast:

I just read that on the RD600 chipset, when it sees a X1800 or X1900 it changes it to 125. I have always left this one at 100, but after reading that I just changed it to 125.

I could try mine at 125 I guess.

The bandwidth at 16 lanes is more than needed anyway, so I don't know what the 125 would do. But it might be worth a try.

I just overheated the card. I forgot that I had the fan set at 1500RPM and after a bit of Test drive unlimited it hard locked, then upon reboot it woudn't boot and kept beeping the video card error beep. I had to wait for a few minutes before it would boot.

Mebey later.

Thanks for the response so far everyone! I took a little time and contacted ATI/AMD concerning PCI-e Bus speeds, I'm curious to see what they have to say about it.

Thanks for your attempts so far Steevo, it's much appreciated, I hope your video card is okay after that overheat.

Hey there! Right now I am setting up my new MB, but I will try 145 again and take some screen shots for you.

It'll help if you all mention what motherboard chipset you have, I've got a board based on the nv650i SLI chipset, currently testing the NB PCI-E bus at 125MHz.

It's most useful when running in SLI/CF mode, the nv650i SLI boards for example runs SLI at 8x/8x so any increase in bandwidth should (in theory) help.

145 A?

I can't reboot right now. To many downloads going, becuase I did a fresh install today.
but
How high is it safe to go? My 580X board says it can go up to 200.

I never went passed 145... it would crash after that.

that was on my Striker Extreme board

what i have found is that the lower-end crossfire mobos that run both slots at 8x benefit allot from increasing bus speed when we talk about higher-end x1950 and 2900 cards , i think 1800 would also see an improvement in crossfire, and possibly the 1700, but probably not.

Hmm, I'm sensing a higher 3DM06 score for Alcopone's ATI listing under a certain someone's x1950xtx! I hope it goes well for ya!

Not good.....I scored 100 under from my last score.

I'm going to go play some BF2 and get back to messing with it tommarow.

Actually it depend of the motherboard and most improtant the GPU...

With the P5W64, i use between 135-> 150mhz, and with the 2900 who scale better with high speed PCI express, you have a gain, this will not say with other GPU you will see score increase... This give me too more stability in GPU.. certainly the board disapatch more power to the slot at same time (the CFX3200 have too an options for choose the power on each slots, on P5W64, it's called heavy load applied to a slot.)

it's needed try and see... for what i have see with a I975x you have better luck of get a gain..

I am not sure 975 chipsets really benefit from this. Has anyone tested it yet on a P5W DH Deluxe?

Yes.. Kinc, he use a P5WDH, revision 12/06 and i have here too the same board with same rev. but personally i like more the P5W64 for bench..( it's a personal thing, and it comes too with my DDR kit)...

But again, i say it, it depend of the GPU use... And not wait miracle with "overclocking" the PCI express, the gain are here, but it's some few points... Don't think you will gain 500pnts under 3D06.

Benchmark Scores It does boot up? I think.
Bumping the PCIe freq may yield a higher GPU OC.

The golden X800GTO I had loved high PCIe; PCIe @ 100MHz -> 140MHz = +20MHz (-> 645MHz) on the GPU.

Well it was a little better.

60 points...

Margin of error for 3dmark? Awefully close.

Better question, is are these results repeatable and consistant?

Well at 125 I played BF2 for 3-4 hours. But if I turned on a movie it would lock withen 5 minites, I tired it several times to make sure it was the PCI-e being to high and it was.
