I want to replace the NVME SSD on a system but i want to keep using the old one too, b450 tomahawk max has only 1 M.2 slot and i need an adapter but the problem is that i dont want to block the GPU airflow, are there any PCI-E -> M2 adapters at an angle , maybe vertical or something like this https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61SvAL3gmjL._SX522_.jpg but for M.2?.

Edit: Or i need to combine 2 adaptors , will they work even? also the ssd is Gen3x4 the connection will be Gen2 x4. // or i just need a new motherboard :)
This is the ssd: https://s13emagst.akamaized.net//pr...ght=685&hash=B8A837947EFA5D4961406F666369D481

Not seeing any, maybe just deal with it being a inch high, or some multi connector like a 16x slot right angle and and adding some other crazy shit to it.

Ribbon one's seem to be all wifi stuff :(, and on top of that it would need fixing some were safe too so it don't short on some thing..

Yeah but not sure how good can it be , im downgrading the connection from 3.0 to 2.0 and with 2 adapters not sure if it will even work , i was looking for something in one piece, curious how nobody thought to make one, i was pretty sure aliexpress has one :)
Why would you need to downgrade the connection to 2.0? I have one of these, and PCI-e 3.0 works just fine. :)

The second pcie slot is only 2.0 or i got it wrong?

  • 1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (PCI_E1)
    • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen™ processors support x16 speed
    • Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Vega Graphics and 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen™ with Radeon™ Graphics processors support x8 speed
      • 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (PCI_E4, supports x4 mode)1
      • 3 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots1
      • PCI_E4 will run x2 speed when installing devices in PCI_E2/ PCI_E3 slot.

I guess i need 2 adapters to do one simple thing.

Something like this but reversed:

I guess it's 2.0, then. But I don't think you need to worry about using two adapters (someone comment on this if I'm wrong).

Just for the two m.2 slots, probably no. If you need them to run at at least PCI-e 3.0 spec, then maybe. The biggest question is always one's wallet.

Silverstone has a very low profile adapter. I have it in one of my rigs and it's perfect.

I got 4 options
1. Go for a b550 board (i feel that i would pay too much for what i need of this system to do)
2, Search for a x470 - b450 with 2 m2.
3. Get this 2 thing adapter.
4. Get a SATA SSD but all the work im doing will be on it so i would prefer to be on a m2 pcie SSD which is faster.

Depends on your wallet, and on how badly you need that m.2 to be flat, and how badly you need PCI-e speeds. I can't tell you what to do - only you know your circumstances and needs.

Are you trying to find an adapter that will put the SSD parallel to the motherboard? Because those don't exist.

How large is your GPU anyway? I'm willing to bet that one of the standard perpendicular PCIe-to-M.2 SSDs will not obstruct airflow that much. They're so cheap that I'd suggest just buying one, plugging it in, and seeing how GPU temperatures go.

If you're really set on the whole airflow thing, your best and cheapest bet would be a second-hand X470 board off Ebay, which you can find for under £100 in the UK.

Yes exactly what i was looking for, parallel with the mobo.

I found an MSI b550 a pro at 100E never used (new but from a person), i think its better than X470 at the same price but ill think about it.

X470 has more connectivity in terms of PCIe lanes and USB 3 ports, B550 has less but arguably puts it to better use (front USB-C etc.). If the B550-A PRO looks like it'll do the job for what you want to use it for, go for it! And remember you can dump your current B450 board on Ebay to recoup some of the upgrade cost.

Yeah , ill see what i will do in the end.

B550 has PCIe 4.0 and 3.0x4 for the second m.2 so yeah i think its a better option and ill go for it if ill decide to replace the motherboard. Thnaks:)

I'm not sure where you live, but B550 boards are quite cheap here in the UK, even when new. The B550-A Pro that you want is currently £137 at Scan UK. If it was me, I'd pay that extra 40 quid for warranty, especially with a board like this (MSi isn't famous for their attention to detail with their cheaper boards).

Agreed. I have one of those. It's cheap and works like a charm. :) It even works with SSDs with heatsinks.

combine it with an x4 riser cable (or x16 if you want though thats a waste of money) to put it even further away from your gpu to give it even more room to breathe. Every single inch/centimeter counts!

or you can directly get an m.2 to pcie x4 riser cable and stick that to the floor of your case, if ur case has enough depth to fit the nvme ssd that is.

It has no PCI mounting so.. you'd have to be careful not to short it out

Will adding the M2 SSD into PCIE_4 will it downgrade my GPU link to x8? PCI_E4 is the second large x16 connector. (B450 TOMAHAWK max)
From my understanding it should not but i want to be sure.
