PCI express 2.0 graphics card on a PCI express mobo

hi,

my mobo doesn;t have PCI express 2.0. It only has regular
PCI express.

I just bought a nifty XFX HD 4850 graphics card which
is PCI express 2.0.

So now do I have to upgrade the mobo, or will it work
ok with it?

No, PCIE 2.0 is backwards compatable with the first version. Since you are running a single card the extra bandwidth of 2.0 isn't really necessary.

It should work fine... the updated version probably just got a new 8 pin power connector...

No. The 2900XT was the first card to use the 8-pin connector and it wasn't PCI-E 2.0. Also, there are plenty of 2.0 cards with a regular 6-pin connector, including the 4850.

To the OP... I run a 2.0 card in a regular 1.1 slot myself and I have no problems doing so. It is backwards compatable... you will be fine.

PCIe 1.0 or 1.1 mobo is enough for all current VGA

I using a 4870 with my i965 mobo and its fine!

yeah, as long as it doesnt is a gtx 295 you shouldnt notice any performance loss
