On March 22 1993, Intel shipped the very first Pentium processor, the 60MHz model imaginatively dubbed the 'P60'.

Pentium was the successor to the 486 processor. Intel had originally wanted to call the chip the 586, but couldn't get a trademark on the number. Rather than let AMD use the 586 name too, the company decided to switch to a word. Pentium is obviously based on the Greek pent, which is the word for five (hence pentathalon, pentagram etc).

Well, I guess there won't be a 15th birth day for Pentium.
Unless Intel pulls out Core 2 Pentium....

my first what a 150mhz pentium pro, with 64mb of memory (which i upgraded to 112mb) and two 4gb scsi HDD. And a matrox 4mb video card. Every ones was jelious of my machine back in the day. being that the pro's where the fastest cpus at the time. if memory servers correctly, the unit cost around 4000, but through my old man's company, i think we got it around 2000.

My parents bought me my first PC in 1994 when i was 5.
Was a 486, and thats pretty much all i remmember about it, except that it cost 2,500$ at first and then was upgraded somewhat to a 1GB HDD in 1997. Got lost in the moving a few years ago.

After that i got my second PC in late 2000, wich was a Pentium 3. My Pentium 4 in late 2004 and now im building my watercooled Quad-Core Q6600 in 2007.

Happy Birthday Pentium! The name Pentium wont be forgotten for at least a few years, now that they are going to make Core 2 Duo's with 1MB of cache and call them Pentium.

My first PC was a '96 IBM Aptiva with a 200 MHz Pent Pro, 32MB RAM, 3.1 GB HDD, CD-ROM (8x ?) and a 4MB ATI Rage Pro 3D Edition. I could Run Diablo II on it. I have had ATI cards in my computers since birth. Rage Pro -> X600 Pro -> X800 GTO/X850 XT P.E. -> X1900 XTX -> R600 :rockout:

Well, I guess there won't be a 15th birth day for Pentium.
Unless Intel pulls out Core 2 Pentium....

I'm just going to say you an Intel trademark: Pentium E2040 & Pentium E2060.

Yeah, FSB800, dual stripped down Conroe cores. Pentium lives... :rockout:

you guys all had real nice computer back in the day :) i think the first that i used had a pentium....i think pro, with like windows 3.1, those were the days, no computer crashes/hangs, not to mention the bsod. then i used my dad's work laptop that ran 95 with one of those real docking stations (you know the ones that you would drop the laptop on and it gave it like another hdd, an optical drive) jw, what happened to those docking stations?
