with 6 core u can waste a lot of money ,......4 cores is more than enough i believe....4 cores with higher clock speed and large cache is what i want.......

You still act like any of the AMD quads will be like riding a pedal bike while doing anything but gaming, but I was more speaking to specifically Shadow there as he seems to be a big gamer, and we already went over that most people on this site are probably going to be gaming over many other things, outside this site, I might recommend something diff, but to Shadow, I'd say beasty quad.

Yeah, for a gamer. it matters little, tbh. It's all about the gfx card at that point (well, mostly, but you get the point). I never claimed AMD was slow, just slower.

But, at the price of the AMD top end, you might as well spend the few extra dollars, and go with a i7 920 build. It's worth it, if for nothing else than both SLI and Xfire support, not to mention the better clocking.

Now, anywhere below AMD's top end, and it's the best option out there, unless you already have a 775 board.

The 720BE is a beast, you just can't go wrong for the price and the OC ability. For gaming the thing is amazing, and even for everything else since it OC's so well.

Yeah the i7 is a bit faster, I would agree if your picking up a mobo/ram/mem that going for the 920 is probably the best bet. A whole comp build at once though is harsh. I'm looking at building a really good gaming comp for a friend here soon, and the i7 920 route would add on about $70 and break the 1k build cost. Granted 70 isn't too bad, but I'm already looking for ways to put the fatty build on a diet

The i7 920 alone costs around 140$ more than the 720. Where are you getting 70$?

I believe the price of the highest and most expensive Phenom II right now which is the 955 would be the most expensive AMD would price their CPU. The 955s price will drop £20-30 whilst he 965 will adopt the 955s old price. Hopefully this would mean that the current midrange Phenom IIs prices will be lowered in an knock on effect. The Phenom II 720 was around £105 at its lowest, it has gone up to around £110 now. I was hoping it was going to drop below £100 so I can pick up a bargain. I guess I'm going to have to settle for the Phenom II 710 for £90 and accept that the OCs will be lower with more effort. Alternatively, there is the Phenom II 550 which is about £80, if that drops below £70 I may very well snap it up.

I don't think you will see the 955 drop that far. I'm betting it would go to $230ish. $200 would put it too close to the 940, but they could drop that too as they already dropped the 710, 720, and 810 chips. I just can't see them cutting almost $50 off the 955.
