Phenom II X8?

BIOS updates for mainboards made by Elitegroup Computer Systems and Jetway reveal that Advanced Micro Devices may be preparing a new line of multi-core microprocessors called Phenom II X8. Based on alleged specifications of the products, the new central processing units (CPUs) will be aimed at cost-sensitive segment of the market.

Based on CPU support list of Jetway HA18 mainboard based on AMD 9-series chipset and AM3+ socket, AMD is preparing a series of new microprocessors based on Zambezi design (Bulldozer micro-architecture, 4, 6 or 8 cores) of different revisions with rather low clock-speeds and with 95W thermal design power. Jetway lists the new processors as "engineering samples", but a well-known Japanese observer/blogger Northwood.blog60.fc2.com points to an alleged ECS A890GXM-A2 CPU support list that calls the chips as AMD Phenom II X8.

The list of AMD Phenom II X8 microprocessors includes four models:

AMD Phenom II X8 2420: 2.40GHz, 95W, ZD242046W8K43
AMD Phenom II X8 3020: 3.00GHz, 125W, ZD302051W8K44
AMD Phenom II X8 2520: 2.50GHz, 95W, ZD252046W6443
AMD Phenom II X8 2820: 2.80GHz, 95W, ZD282046W8K43

The "Phenom II X8" microprocessors can be actual early engineering samples of chips that now belong to AMD FX premium product line, however, listing of their support now implies that AMD is cooking something new.

This must be Bulldozer based. They getting Phenom II x8 name confused. Because no point going backwards, unless the redesign the Cpu as a hybris cpu based on PII and Bulldozer.

They're using the Phenom II name because they see the FX line as a "premium product line" and these would be crippled Bulldozers.

So basically FX minus about 1 ghz and locked/limited overclocking capabilities (assuming), and probably similar price to FX. There's more differences between Sandy Bridge and Ivy bridge than these things. Silly AMD...

AMD are far from silly, palm face or not the Bulldozer is flying off the shelves. Infact they can't even keep up with the demand.

The Phenom II X8 can be a good addition to AMD's stable if the price is low. Not everyone has money for a high end Bulldozer. I would be glad to drop in a Phenom II X8 if the price is right.

If there were 10 in stock from shop A of Bulldozer, and there were 15 people who wanted to buy one each from them, shop A could say they were "flying off the shelves" and that they "can't even keep up with the demand" because supply would be quickly used up and demand even outnumbers the supply.

If there were 40 in stock from shop A of Sandy Bridge, and there were 38 people who wanted to buy one each from them, shop A couldn't say they were "flying off the shelves" and that they "can't even keep up with the demand" because supply wouldn't be used up and the demand does not outnumber the supply.

You would thus conveniently (or intentionally?) ignore the fact that 38>15.

This is still BD based, full. Just a locked multiplier unlike the fx81xx's.

Stop turning it into Intel is outselling AMD debate. The bottom line is Bulldozer is selling well.

To say AMD is coming up with a "ploy" for a product which is selling extremely well is rediculous.

That would be bad move. PII is too old, Bullddozer is much better design, just needs to be tweaked jus like PI when it came out and was not a good performer. The share holders would hav destroyed AMD if not release Bulldozer, and now AMD cannot feed demand fast enough.

It took only two weeks for Sandy Bridge to finally get stocked by local retailers here after it was released in January.

Bulldozer was released in October. Local retailers only bothered getting stocks in the first week of December.

Sandy Bridge (especially the unlocked CPUs) are usually out of stock. The Bulldozers are usually still in stock.

Again you are turning it into a Intel is outselling AMD debate or a SandyBridge outselling Bulldozer debate. You make it seem like Bulldozer's sales are relative to Sandybridges sales.

Intel's line up is also selling well, but it doesnt take away the fact that Bulldozer is selling well too.

Im not sure. Bulldozer yes was pushed out the door but really is the public buying them up so fast they cant keep them on the shelves? IMO I dont think so... I think AMD is trying to save there ass and come up with a quick revision and halted production. I been a fan for so long but not no more. :cool:

Yeah, and it's not news. If you didn't notice...I posted in that thread as well ...

It's an article pretending to be news, based off of ECS's wrong assumptions from long ago, thinking that Bulldozer's uarch would eventually market as Phenom II X8 and a bunch of fairy dust.

The model numbers in that "news" article as well as ECS and Jetway's websites correspond to stepping B0 engineering samples from last May.
