Hi Guys,

Just recently got into upgrading my hardware again and picked up a 1080ti 11GB for 550 AUD and swaps for my 980ti. I have not been in touch with overclocking for a while but I can see the card does it all by itself. The GPU Boost Clock vs the Maximum reported have a huge difference. Did I hit the jackpot on a quality chip here?

Jaw dropping difference in 1440p especially on Monster Hunter World.

The 1080ti 's are some of the most consistent out there. With adequate cooling, 2Ghz should be doable with a core OC of about 130. Memory might reach 12Ghz too. You'll hit power limits before you hit temp limits if it's cooled properly.

An excellent deal you got there. :rockout:

1847MHz actually seems a bit low to me for a stock boost. I thought most 1080Ti's boost over 1900 at stock. But the temp of 84°C is holding you back I think.

I'd say run the fan faster, but I see it is already running pretty fast. The cooler on the card must be pretty poor. But it's a Gigabyte, so not surprising...

The maximum I've seen mine boost to is ~1900 at around 65C, and I'm bottlenecking it so hard until my E5 2650 comes (I currently have the Xeon equivilant to a i5 2400)
I expect mine to boost up to around ~2000. Your memory on the other hand, seems to be very highly binned, most people get 1000-1500 from what I remember

The cooler should be up to the task:

Just make sure that you have good airflow through the case (the lack of a side air intake on the Corsair Obsidian 350D doesn't help in this department...).

Ambient temps are biggest factor, why blow hot air onto something already hot, just makes it worse...

Have that same cooler, but in black, it looks really nice.
My GPU never gets above 70C in a old Dell T3600, but never has gone above 30% usage anyways

Whats your OC set at? Do you run your games windowed? Usage never increases above 30%? How do you do that? Almost any game I run fullscreen jumps usage to 90-99%.

That boost clock is just like a regular FE card or stock clock card. Nvidia pascal cards boost to higher levels than advaticed. Its normal as long temp and power target stays with in limits.

My own factory OC EVGA SC2 GTX 1080 TI does up to 1936 out of box. With overclock up to 2050 and that is around there most GTX 1080 TI stops being gaming stable. While some cards can go higher. But to really have a golden sample, you will need to have a card that is capable of 2100 MHz when OC or more.

My own card with a quick overclock.

Mine goes to 1950MHz stock (although I do have AORUS which is probably a bit overclocked as is even without using the app). With some convincing I can get it to 2000MHz, but I haven't bothered enough to get it really stable. I guess 50MHz really sin't worth the effort for the magic 2GHz...

I don't have an OC, and have even thought of underclocking it. The reason my usage is so low is because I have the equivalent of a i5 2400 in my main rig, my E5 2650 comes later today so I can run a few more benchs in GTA V, Rise of the Tomb raider, PUBG and a few others

It isn't... I have that card with good airflow. At stock it's great... very quiet, it gets very loud if you OC though (+120% ) in games like witcher and Kingdom Come.

77% Fan speed, 2900RPM, and 84°C seems to suggest otherwise.

The 350D should provide plenty of airflow. You don't need a side air intake for any reason really. Hell, my Defined S likely has significantly worse airflow than his 350D, and 1080Ti never even gets close to 84°C, and I have it overclocked.

Ok, so after doing a proper test, my 1080 TI can get around 1900 stock turbo, 1950 overvolted turbo and 2020 when OC'ed, but I don't think my PSU likes it, it shut down instantly with a snap a minute or two after applied

Which PSU? I run my card at 115-117% power limit perfectly fine and I used to run two overclock 780s beforehand.

Idk, some 635W Dell (Gold rated, in my T3600), the issue is that I'm using a 6 pin in the 8 PIN slot by a splitter (6p -> dual 8p) and the two extra pins on the 8 pin aren't powered. It seems to have fixed itself, but upon opening the package, I found out that the supposed E5 2650 I bought it a E5 2658, really annoying as it's very slow, albeit with 8C/16T

Thanks guys so majority of the response seems like the clockspeeds are a bit average then! It's probably the way I've setup my rig. Really haven't been bothered to upgrade my platform and using a cheap motherboard at the moment. My soundcard is blocking half the card's cooling potential.

Your clockspeeds are a tad low, but nothing to worry about. Have fun gaming on this beast!

My ASUS Strix is limited by TDP somehow :(.
